Who doesn’t like a good Jersey diner? Stopped here for a weekday dinner around 5:30pm and the place was filling up quickly. I can understand why. The menu was as big of a diner menu as I have seen in a while and the daily specials were terrific. The dinner specials came with soup or salad, a main dish with a potato and veggie and then a dessert. My dinner guest and I each went home with another full meal for the next night. The pea soup was great - not too salty at all. The broiled scrod was outstanding as was the mashed potatoes with brown gravy and the sautéed spinach. Our waitress was excellent and the service overall was terrific. The only reason I am not giving it 5 starts is because of the flies that would not leave us alone during our meal. However, that wouldn’t stop me from going there again.
Pretty good diner with a wide variety of dishes and attentive staff. Sandwiches and fries were great. Caesar salad was good, but chicken was a bit dry. Tons to choose from. Plenty of seating but still fills up. Affordable. Manager was nice. Would eat here occasionally if I lived in the area.Food: 4/5
The best spanakopita ever! Even better than anything in Tarpon Springs Florida! Chicken/lemon soup was delicious! Greek salad was great accompaniment. Can’t wait to go again!Food: 5/5
We love coming here whenever we are in town. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. They accommodate even the pickiest eater amongst us. They always have on smiles, and the service is fast. The food is good too!Food: 5/5
Great food. Great prices and great service. My new favorite place to eat. I always feel special when we go there. Terrific wait staff. Usually smiling and never seem to be in a bad mood. Usually seen to go out of their way to helpFood: 5/5
Our server Carolyn was very friendly and conscientious. She stopped at our table to ask if we needed refills for our coffee. This diner is extremely clean and bright and cheerful. We enjoyed our meal and we will always stop by when in the Freehold area.
I’m a Jersey-shore-girl-turned-Minnesota-resident, and I miss the following Jersey classics most when I’m in Minneapolis: pizza, diners, bagels, and the beach. I’m currently visiting Jersey for Christmas, and I knew I needed to visit a dinner before I left. I looked up reviews, and I was very intrigued by Gus’s Diner. When we got there, it was clear that this place is popular with locals and has a number of regulars that the staff know by name. We were seated promptly, and the service was friendly and efficient. The pancakes and home fries were excellent, although I wish the home fries were seasoned more thoroughly. My mom ordered a gyro panini, and she was a big fan of the grilled chicken, fresh dill, pickle, and tzatziki sauce. Clearly, Gus’s is a step above other local diners in terms of fresh ingredients. It didn’t seem like they took the normal diner shortcuts. I loved my experience, and I’m excited to try the black and white cookie we ordered to go. My biggest critique is that Gus’s didn’t seem too concerned about environmental sustainability. We were given plastic straws, individual butter packets, individual half and half, and individual syrup packets. The individually-wrapped condiments may have been to been to be covid conscious, but I wish Gus’s served fewer things in plastic. Parking: Ample parking
I've lived near this diner for years, and finally went in for breakfast the other day. It couldn't have been a more quintessential diner experience, from the menu to the staff to the clientele. Nothing fancy on the menu, but the Eggs Benedict was delicious, and the home fries were just right. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and seemed to know most of the people who came in. If you're looking for a true Jersey diner, this is your place.
Picked this location randomly based off Google reviews when traveling. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered an omelet with mushrooms and cheddar with the home fries. I did ask the waitress if the fries or home fries were better. She recommended the home fries. It was a good recommendation. The omelet was exceptional. It was not the normal greasy omelet that some diners and restaurants serve. My value on a meal is if the food that I purchased out is something that I can cook home and cook significantly better, the meal was not worth it. I can cook eggs and often do, but this omelet with home fries was great. My son ordered pancakes and chocolate milk. He was commenting to me on wanting 'Mickey Mouse' pancakes. I did not believe that Mickey Mouse pancakes or any special shapes were option, so I tempered his expectations and told him to just get the regular pancakes. Either they overheard him or they make them for all kids, he was treated with 'Mickey Mouse' pancakes. They were 3 large pancakes with 2 smaller silver dollar pancakes as ears for each pancake. The waitress serving the food even noted to him, here are 'Mickey Mouse' pancakes. He thoroughly enjoyed his chocolate milk and pancakes. I tried some, and they were good as well. He could not finish half his meal, so I might order a smaller portion next time. I did bring home the leftover pancakes. Portions were good, and prices were very fair. I would stop in again.
Very clean as well as super friendly staff. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other diners we've visited in the Monmouth area.
