Hadley Police K-9 Unit

About

This is the official Facebook page for the K-9 Unit of the Hadley, MA Police Department.

Description

The Hadley Police Department K-9 program began in the summer of 2013. At that time, Chief Hukowicz and Officer Costa worked to bring this program to the department, and secured a grant through the Stanton Foundation to do so.

K-9 Nomar was born in Holland in 2012, and was imported to Shallow Creek Kennel in Pennsylvania in August of 2013. Later that month Officer Costa went out to Pennsylvania, and purchased the first K-9 in department history, now known as Nomar.

Shortly after, the K-9 team attended an 8 week patrol training class, and later a 5 week narcotics detection class.

The K-9 team has had plenty of success since its inception, and that success can be credited to the work with the Trainers and Master Trainers under the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA). To date, our K-9 team has done plenty of work in town as well as provided help to other area agencies, working mutual aid to assist over 10 other communities as well.

As noted before, the program has been able to run on grant money to date. We will be looking to host fundraisers in the coming months and years to continue to provide this program to the town, at no cost to the town. Thank you to Chief Mason, the Select Board, and the town for all of the continued support to date, and into the future with this program.
