Providing comprehensive dental care to the Eastern Olympic Peninsula

Description

Ryan E. Gile D.D.S
Dr. Gile was born in Hawaii and grew up in Redmond, WA. He received his Bachelor's degrees in both physics and chemistry from Central Washington University. Following graduation he moved to the San Juan Islands, and for the next six years worked in research at the University of Washington's Friday Harbor Labs. He and his family relocated to San Francisco where Dr. Gile attended graduate school in Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco. After three more years of research, Dr. Gile realized he wanted to help people more directly. He wanted the people he saw with his own eyes to be the same people he helped with his own hands - in short, he wanted to become a dentist.

In May of 2015, Dr. Gile earned his Doctorate degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, California. He chose LLU because of its excellent clinical reputation and its emphasis on serving others. Throughout his dental education Dr. Gile participated in numerous humanitarian projects delivering free dentistry to the underserved in his local community and internationally.

Dr. Gile genuinely cares about his patients and thinks it's an honor to help them reach better oral health. His sense of humor has proved to be comforting for patients who are hesitant about being in the dental office. Having two young kids has provided Dr. Gile with the exact skills he needs to communicate with children, creating a very positive first appointment. He thinks dentistry is an exciting field and loves to learn new ways of improving his patient's oral health.

Dr. Gile is very excited to be back in the Pacific Northwest because it is so beautiful and it is the same place where he fell in love with his wife, Alana. Together with their two precious young children, Dr. Gile and his wife love to go on hikes in the mountains and runs in the forests, and to surf, scuba dive, and swim in the ocean. Port Hadlock is a wonderful fit because of the limitless outdoor activities available and the small town community for which he and his wife had been looking for.

I am a dental coward and have very sensitive teeth so I am always aphrenrsive when entering a dental practice new to me. I am so pleased with the care I received from Dr. Giles and his team at Hadlock Dental Center. My exam was unhurried, informative, shame free, and compassionate. Treatment options were reviewed with me in a way I understood, and my insurance coverage was explained so I knew what would and would not be covered and approximately how much I would need to pay out of pocket. I was set up with a dental cleaning the following week and I felt comfortable and at ease through the entire process, with my hygienist, taking extra time to make things comfortable for me. My follow up appointments were scheduled right away, and though I am still a dental coward, I feel confident in trusting Dr. Giles and his team with my dental needs to come.
They canceled my appointment when my teeth are desperately in need of attention and I've been waiting for over 6 months. Plus I wasted half a day off work and half a tank of gas since I live out in the middle of nowhere, 90 minutes drive each way to get there, all for nothing!
I've been going to this dentist since I was a kid because it was the only one at the time that took my insurance in my area. I've had a few interactions with the dentist that were less than ideal. I went in recently because I thought I had an abscess on a broken tooth and the dental assistant I had was amazing, she talked and joked with me to help ease my anxiety since I have dental anxiety in my chart. Which means I have to be hurting pretty bad to go to the dentist. After he did an examination and xray of the area, he didn't believe I had an infected tooth, which I'm very happy about because I did not want to deal with all that right now. But I'm still in a lot of pain and I told him the pain kept me up the entire night before the appointment. What is also in my chart is chronic migraines, so you can imagine how mouth pain can easily trigger one of those. On top of all that, over the counter pain meds don't work as well as they would for people who don't have some sort of chronic pain. He told me that there wasn't anything obvious that could be causing that pain and used the language I'm very familiar with when a doctor doesn't believe me when I'm telling them something is hurting me. In the end, I left with a referral to a specialist and in more pain than I came in with. I'm a young, female presenting person that, if I have any dental pain, causes a migraine that last for days or even weeks, I've explained this many times to him over the course of seeing him. So has my mother. His staff was the reason I kept going back because they're always so understanding and they made the experience better but at this point I'm leaving the clinic in more pain than I came in with and I can't keep doing that. I'm really going to miss his staff and how they always took care of me, but there has been too much the dentist has said and done that ended in me feeling more self conscious of my teeth or hurting. I'm hoping that I was the only one who had a negative experience with this dentist and he's great with all his patients, but with how long he's been making me feel like this, I doubt it.
I took my young boy in for an emergency visit. We had no appointment, but the office was able to fit us in. All of the staff were great with my son, and the dentist in particular was wonderful with him. He was able to connect with my son and help him feel comfortable in the dentist's chair, even though he was in pain.
I have never been so comfortable during a filling in my life. I almost fell asleep! Great place and very kind. Highly recommend for those who have dentist anxiety!
