My experience at Hamilton Behavioral has been mixed. On one hand, my therapist, Ashley, has been wonderful. Very open and honest with me and seemed to understand me almost immediately. After struggling to find someone for many years, she was a breath of fresh air. On the other hand, my experience with prescribers has been very different. I felt that I was not being listened to and talked down to. The data and tests that I brought forward from my therapist were overlooked in favor of a “feeling” that contradicted everything the data said, after speaking to me for only 5 minutes. They told me the same thing countless others have told me for almost a decade, without any relief. Unless something changes I would not recommend Hamilton Behavioral for prescriber services.
The doctors and therapist were fine no issues. The issues for over a year and a half was BILLING! Always make sure it's correct before paying anything. The only way to get anything resolved was to drive there and get answers and I have since moved so it was very inconvenient. I had to do my own investigation as well. I was due a refund after all was cleared up which took months of chasing. Yet when they wanted money they were constantly billing and calling me. The staff was nice but due to being short staffed and overwhelmed from the way things were done during covid it took forever! I've never had to go through this in all my years having health insurance. AGAIN.....MAKE SURE ITS PROCESSED CORRECTLY!
Sadly this practice has gone down a slope I’m not sure they will recover from. They seems unwilling to learn and grow from their mistakes. Nothing but kind things to say about the doctor and therapist I see however the office staff is a different story. They always pick up rude and that’s if they pick up at all. They’re not helpful and always seem to want to blame someone else for an issue that arises. Honestly I think the largest issue is the CEO being unwilling to listen to his staff and patients constructive criticism. He always seems to think he knows best when the reality is he does not have any knowledge of the business world and how to run a business. It’s sad to think all these great doctors and therapists are under someone who just does not seem to care. One day maybe things will change however I have been told over the phone multiple times they’re working on changing things but it never seems to happen. Simply sad.
The receptionists were always rude and very unhelpful and unpleasant when calling. Sometimes my Dr. would be 35 - 45 mins late or longer to TeleHealth appointments.... I found that the Dr. I had male was extremely judgmental and bias when it came to taking the patient's being me actual severity of symptoms into consideration. It felt like when we found a treatment that worked for me it needed to be constantly altered when I felt that the current treatment was improving my quality of life. I unfortunately had to leave this practice as they did not seem to have my needs in the best of their interest. Also, I was asked three times on three different appointments with my Dr. to leave a 5 star review, as if they were begging for reviews, in my opinion..? This rubbed me the wrong way as a patient from a Dr. When my Dr. was away for vacation I was given Zhanna Berman, APN to cover for my appointment. I have NEVER experienced such unprofessional and irresponsible treatment and behavior towards a patient from any psychiatrist or psychologist or even a neighbor in my LIFE. More people as this facility need to be properly trained to advocate for the patient, not themselves.
I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to do so for Hamilton Behavioral. I worked with Colleen Kalmbach and she was so helpful and responsive. She listened and worked with me to come up with the best plan. I am so thankful to have met with her and cannot recommend Hamilton Behavioral enough!
I have been a patient at Hamilton Behavioral for a year. And what a difference a year makes. I have completed TMS and weaned off a med from 30 years ago. I am in 2 great groups and individual therapy, too. The staff, including the front desk are awesome! They saved my life and are returning me to sanity!
I saw Dr. Ahmad at Hamilton Behavioral in March of 2021 with the intention of starting TMS shortly after. I was, like many people who pursue TMS, in a desperate situation. But I was not able to move forward with treatment at Hamilton Behavioral because at my second appointment, they attempted to make me party to what was almost certainly insurance fraud. At that time, I was insured by United Healthcare, which green-lit coverage of TMS for me after Dr. Ahmad filed a claim following our first appointment. I had somewhere around $2000 left on my deductible at that point, meaning that I was on the hook for that $2000 regardless of what kind of care I was receiving, and that the rest of the TMS-related costs would be covered 100% by my insurance the total cost for TMS was estimated at around $6000-$12,000. At the end of my second appointment, at which my brain was "mapped' in preparation for the treatment, Dr. Ahmad told me to talk to an associate at the front desk on my way out I wish I remember this woman's name, but I do not. The woman told me, out of earshot of others in the front lobby, that I would soon be prescribed multiple medications, and that I was to pick these medications up from the pharmacy, but and she was VERY clear about this not take them. I asked her why, and she explained that they were "expensive medications" and that this would somehow lower the cost for me I can't remember her exact wording but she absolutely acknowledged that this was being done under the table and was not something they were supposed to do. I immediately called Dr. Ahmad, recounted the exchange, and asked him to explain. He offered three explanations that, in addition to each contradicting the others, would not have adequately explained the situation individually. One was that the high-cost medications were prescribed as "part of a program" that is commonly used to lower patients' deductibles this would not make any sense in my case as I was on the hook for 100% of my remaining deductible and 0% of any approved services afterwards—my total out-of-pocket cost was going to be the same no matter what, and there was no way the doctor wouldn't know that. The second explanation was that there had been a mixup, and that the associate had falsely believed that I was supposed to receive these medications again, she very specifically told me that I should pick up the medications at the pharmacy but NOT take them; it's also rather important that TMS patients do not begin taking psychotropic medications at the same time as starting TMS. Finally, he suggested that I may have misunderstood the associate as a result of English not being her first language she had an accent but spoke very good English; I did not misunderstand her. I immediately discontinued treatment with Hamilton Behavioral, not wanting to be made party to whatever scheme it is they were running I also had to explain the whole thing to my health insurance company, and the person I talked to was shocked by the situation. I ended up having to start the whole process over at a different TMS provider, which, while not the end of the world, was incredibly draining and dispiriting given how much I was struggling, and how desperate I was to get better. That's honestly why I never got around to posting this back in 2021, but I wanted to warn people. If you're seeking TMS, go somewhere else!
As per Sandy B Hamilton Behavioral has been great for my special needs son . Dr Ahmad is compassionate and knowledgeable . He listens to our concerns, answers our questions and prescribed medication for my son that has help him immensely . The virtual appointments are convenient . Its easy to pay online when we log in for appointment and we're able to schedule our followup appointment at the end of our visit .
This doctor's office does not know how to apologize for the inconvenience caused to patients and their families due to their mistakes. I called the reception desk a week ago and wanted to speak to the doctor to ask about the medicine she recommended, but they said the doctor was not available and would call me later, but no one called me for a week, so I called again and asked for my doctor, but the lady from reception desk saids she was on vacation and won't be back till end of the July, so if I wanted to talk to doctor, either i have to wait for month or make an another appt with different doctor and pay the office visit fee again, which I strongly think isn't right. The important thing is that they never apologized for not passing my message on to the doctor. and while I was on the phone with the two desk clerks, no one apologized for the inconvenience I was having because I was not getting my medication. I don't think it's right to pay for the same consultation again. As a person who handles human life, the doctor should give notice to their patient, when she go away for a such long time.
Its been very popular based on ratings but reality is different. Technically there is zero psychiatrist doctor available. All are nurse practitioner. so stay away from this place. If you cannot find doctor in this bergen county, look for other county but find a doctor in stead of such nurse practitioner who has limited knowledge and sometime shows zero responsibilities in case of patient concern and serious issue. TERRIBLE.
