Hamline Habitat for Humanity is looking for more people to join the effort in helping end homelessness in the Twin Cities. You can take as big or small of a role as you want, from joining the group to going on the Spring Break trip or even helping out for just one day. With so many homeless people right here in our own community we need all the help we can get.
A few things to think about......
In Minnesota, each night, about 7,000 people are fortunate enough to find a shelter to sleep in for the night.
1,000 people each night are turned away from shelters who have no room left.
One night, a total of 2,726 children aged 17 and younger experienced homelessness with their parents.
33% of homeless adults (and 45% of women) reported that they had stayed in an abusive relationship because they had nowhere else to live.
On any given night in Minnesota, between 550 and 650 unaccompanied youth (17 or younger) are without permanent shelter.
Over the course of one year, 10,000 to 12,000 unaccompanied youth experience at least one episode of homelessness.
