Took a long ride with my Handsome man to this not so well known place in Suffolk to the Ghent area of Norfolk this morning. Crowded, but cozy. They have it running in a like a tight vessel. Placed order and did not take too long. Will be back. Food was great Food: 5/5
Everyone said this was the place, all the food websites, the reviews, and friends….so obviously I checked it out and it did not disappoint. Opted for a standard bacon egg and cheese biscuit not then made an audible and got it on a sweet potato biscuit. Delicious. Staff is super friendly, prices are good and a bonus of getting to feed the birds all my crumbs on the patio was a nice way to kick off my day. Thank you for the meal! Parking: I could see how parking MIGHT get tight if it’s a busy time. I was the only one here today so it was wide open.
My first time coming to Norfolk, VA I wanted to try Handsome Biscuit because I was told that the sweet potatoe biscuit is a must try when in the area, but I didn’t get a chance because they close early at 2pm…..Well I’m back in the Norfolk area again this week and I finally got my chance to try…..and well…..Unfortunately, I am a little disappointed I want to start by saying that the biscuit sandwiches are completely customizable with many options to choose from. You do not have to stick with the traditional sandwich. You can add more of something you like, take away an item, or mix it up. I really enjoyed this feature as I walked to the counter and made my selections from one of the kiosks. The Biscuit Sandwiches: [ ] Hella Fitzgerald – This is fried chicken with bacon, cheddar cheese, and sausage gravy. I also selected the sweet potatoe biscuit….Here we go….To start, unfortunately, the chicken did not taste fresh. It appeared to be precooked and warmed when ordered. I know freshly fried chicken, and this wasn’t it. The chicken skin lacked a crunch and was soggy. It was tepid and lukewarm to the touch. The bacon was good, though, as well as the sauce gravy. The biscuit lacked the distinctive sweet potatoe flavor I was hoping for, but I could taste a hint of it. The biscuit itself also seemed to be precooked and warmed later. It wasn’t fluffy or flaky. To be honest, I’m not sure what this was or what to call it, but this was not it for me. [ ] The Dirty South – This was a fried chicken, pickles, pimento cheese, and hot sauce. This all sounded good and looked good, but it was a true tragedy. Again, the chicken and biscuit didn’t seem to be freshly cooked to me. I don’t recall the smell of grease cooking or bread baking when I walked into the restaurant, and it was slightly warm. I would be curious to know when these items were actually prepared. To wrap up, unfortunately, I’m giving Handsome Biscuit the lowest rating I’ve ever given. I had high hopes and anticipation for this place, and it let me down. Please do not let this review discourage you from trying this restaurant. It wasn’t for me, but you may have a better experience. If so, please let me know. The homemade sweet potato biscuit with eggs and cheddar cheese was the best excellent flavor you could taste the sweet potatoes. My daughter had the hash brown they were great. I would tell all my friends to go by there. We love small and cozy diners. They are very friendlyFood: 5/5
I don’t usually eat biscuit and gravy but this is delicious! The gravy taste like KFC potatoes gravy. Limited parking space, no indoor seating. When you sit outdoor the birds will join you too.Food: 5/5
BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICH EVER! My family and I were visiting from out of town and wanted a quick bite to eat before heading back to NC. My kids enjoyed everything, the hash browns, fresh and ready to go. Will come back to VA just for another sandwich from here.
Had a wonderful breakfast, their biscuits are delicious, chicken was crispy and juicy, tater tots were seasoned beautifully.Food: 5/5
10/10 would recommend. This is a good place to go when you wanna try something different. The customer service was really good. I never been here and they help me out a lot. I got the hella Fitzgerald combo and I got it with a sweet potato biscuit and the sweet potato biscuit is really really good. The sandwich over all was 8/10 just bc of the saltiness of the chicken and bacon together. The chicken was kinda salty and with the bacon in it just made it a salty sandwich. And I don’t mean it was over salty you just notice it. But it was a really good sandwich besides that. I also ask for extra cheese and you can see in the picture there were not playing around. But overall this was a pretty good place. Would recommend if you’re new to Norfolk and wanna try something different.
They’ve made an astounding improvement since my last review. The chicken issue has been remedied they’ve gone back to chicken thighs!!! and the food is once again top notch. I am bummed by the disappearance of the hash browns, but the sandwiches are phenomenal!!Food: 5/5
We have craved Handsome Biscuit for some time. We were finally able to make the drive across the water to satisfy our cravings only to be very disappointed. The first clue should have been there was not a line out the door like every other time we were there. The menu deleted many items, with our favorites being part of it. With the new menu, as someone else mentioned, you can do better at Bojangles. Before, eventhough they were crazy busy, the employees were always personable. We will not be back.
