The Harding IOP/PHP program saved my life and my relationships. My life and mind set significantly improved over the course of my time there and the results are evident. I’d recommend them to anybody and strongly encourage anyone thinking about the program to give it a shot. It’s hard work and there will be difficult and exhausting days but it’s well worth it. Again, can’t thank this place enough for what they’ve done for me. I can’t speak to how inpatient treatment is since I’ve never done it but from my understanding it is informative and I’ve heard good things from friends.
This place moves extremely slow. Staff is friendly enough, but if your family member or loved one is in real crisis, I’d look elsewhere. I took a friend here and it’s been 10 hours since we were told they’d be “inpatient” and they are still waiting on a room as I’m writing this. I was then told “it’s a slow night and they hope to get patients to rooms within 12 hours”. Doesn’t look like that’ll happen at the rate things are going. Just sad.
Man the stories I could tell you. Briefly: I was in there at the age of 12 in 1975, when it was called Upham Hall. They really didn’t really care about us ‘troubled’ kids on 3 West then. If you acted up, you went to a little room which was cold. They handed you a phone book to tear to pieces to ‘destress’ you. Phone books were quite thick so it took hours before you could come out. There were many other things that I remember but won’t get into here. I am just about 60 now and have never forgot this place. I am haunted to this day about things there. By the way, I was sent there for three months just before Christmas and was not allowed phone calls, visitors, nothing because I was new and Level 0. That’s where I spent Christmas. I was considered troubled because I didn’t listen at school, either didn’t do my homework, or did it badly, didn’t want friends, little things like that. I still don’t understand why I was sent there. Pretty scary for a 12 year old. I still remember what other kids in there, as well as some of the counselors looked like, and even a few of their names. This all still upsets me sometimes to this day. I know this really has nothing to do with what that place is now and how things are done these days, but sometimes it does help to talk about this.
I spent a couple months here in their non-aggressive adult ward following a suicide attempt a few years back. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and professional, and they seemed to treat all the other patients with respect as well. One patient was being disruptive and calling the staff obscenities, but they took it all in stride. A few days later the patient seemed to be doing a lot better and was apologetic and laughing with the staff about how they were acting, so this doesn't seem like a place that treats people poorly because they're being "difficult". I got the sense that the staff truly cared. Sometimes with mental health providers you get the sense that they're just going through the motions but I had several nurses go the extra mile to make a personal connection and make sure I was serious when I said I wasn't going to go home and hurt myself. Not just for my sake, but for my family's sake as well. I read another review that said the place felt dangerous, but I didn't get that vibe at all. I guess it depends on who happens to be admitted there at the time, but it never felt like there was any shadiness or lack of control by the staff while I was there. I never had a negative interaction with any other patient. I knocked a star off because, if I'm perfectly honest, I'm not sure how useful the activities and such are for people dealing with major mental health issues. It's the standard stuff, arts & crafts, a meditation lesson, making a list of what you're thankful for etc. Again, it seemed like they were trying their best to help people but there's only so much anyone can do for someone else. So, in summary, I'd say that in my experience Harding provides a stable, positive environment that could well provide an opportunity for a mental reset, but I wouldn't expect a life-changing experience if your issues tend to be "treatment resistant".
I wish that they could make it easier to get refills for psych meds. Those dealing with mental health issues are often not the greatest at remembering to send emails and/or make phone calls.
They gave me bipolar meds when I had ocd. Seroquel gave me psychosis. The doctors are controlling and nurses give u shots if u refuse their drug due to health concerns and misdiagnosis. Psychiatry is dangerous and the forced torture should be stopped.
I’ve been to both the inpatient hospital 3 times and have gotten outpatient services at Harding as well. Harding has been so helpful to me and the overall inpatient experience is infinitely better than other hospitals in Columbus. I’ve done an IOP program through here, currently get counseling and psychiatry services here, and am starting TMS here today. Everyone has been amazing, they know what they’re doing, they treat me very well, and I know i wouldn’t be alive today if it wasnt for their help. Both the staff and the therapy services here are top notch and everything is up to date and well organized. I have been to hospitals that always “forget” to hold therapy groups on the inpatient side and they have done a disservice to me due to that. Harding is always on top of making sure groups are regular and are actually helpful to patients.
The staff is great. Campus park, and valet need major work. An additional convenient parking for vehicles over 8'2". Some people drive vehicles 9ft. So yea.
Dr Gomathie Cheldayohan is extremely RUDE unprofessional and she intimidates patients to provoke them so that they can have something to attach to the individual. This woman is playing with our family members life. She is dangerously increasing the dosage on two strong medications that treat the same symptoms He have been complaining of chest pain at night they just tell him to go lay down, and that they will take his blood samples to see if he is ok because they don't believe him. She have him taking ZYPRAXA AND CLOZAPINE AT THE VERY SAME TIME every single day even though he have not had ANY TYPE of agresion or anything she is over medicating him to 200MG of CLOZAPINE AND ZYPRAXA. Our family member have been requesting to change Doctors Cheldayohan keeps telling him nothat she will be the one to decide who treats him yet she disrespectes him and make him very uncomfortable.. She doesn't listen to the patients concern's, she keeps vorbaly threatening so that he can react like any frustrated person when someone keeps provokeing you insulting you you would have a breaking point that's how she deals with patients to keep them hospitalized. Our family member have been begging this woman to call us she said NO to him every single time. Cheldayohan is using old information to keep our family member hospitalized when he is completely fine right now Cheldayohan DOESN'T take any time whatsoever to talk with the patients family. Most of the nurses are very RUDE, they make fun of the patients. To impress the Doctors. Experiments are being done on young Black men we need the community to come together the day after Christmas. So far we have a little over 400 Church members that will be peacefully protesting outside of Ohio State Harding Hospital. If you or your family have also been violated please come join us. Bring your cellphone post it on YouTube to bring awareness to what's going on. Call radio stations or any Media house to join us.
This was in 2015. Nurses and technicians had their “favorites”. Pods and bathrooms are gross. Lots of people had visiting friends bringing drugs in easily. There was one fool that kept slamming the phone so they took it off the wall. They admittedly expressed how they don’t have the funding like the James and other surrounding hospitals. I think that is a huge problem bc a huge part of our population is suffering and being sent back out in worse shape than when they came in. Or you come out having lost more faith in the mental health
