Awesome stop to make if you are going to the Harmony Wine Cellers. We bought a glass rose magnet, absolutely beautiful. And a few other little trinkets. Very talented glass blowers !
Harmony California, population 18, a partially restored artist colony, is located at the crest of a hill along Highway 1, about five miles South of Cambria California. Use care, at highway speeds, the entrance comes up quickly. The HARMONY VALLEY CREAMERY was once a milk processing plant. Now, from time to time, various businesses and eateries open here. A small, lovely, non denomination, wedding chapel is located behind the building. Until recently there was a post office with its own zip code. The POTTERY GALLERY, has a collection of locally created ceramic objects for purchase. The WINE TASTING ROOM at the top of the hill, is comfortably dark and cool. A friendly sommelier helps with your selections. An antique ICE CREAM TRUCK dispenses artesian ice creams. No vegan flavors are available. A small garden offers a comfortable place to enjoy the cool treats. My hangout is the HARMONY GLASS WORKS. Under the guidance of Harmony Glass Works' instructors, you shape and blow molten glass to create useful objects. It's exciting, and at first rather scary, to hold 2000 degree glowing glass with only a few sheets of wet newspaper between the malleable glass and your hand. Your object is created on day one and then sits in a cooling chamber for 24 hours. You can then pick it up the next day, or have it shipped. Over the years I've blown and molded bowls, dishes, and assorted glass chickens, for my wife. For my granddaughter, a glob of liquid glass became a smiling, crackled-glass snowman, with coal black eyes, twig arms, and an orange carrot nose. The wheelchair accessible retail area has glass sculptures, glass sinks and jewelry. Each is one-of-a-kind. The prices range from a few to many thousands of dollars. The artists and teachers also do custom work. Crating and shipping is offered. Free parking is in a wheelchair accessible gravel lot. There maybe some difficulty transversing the short distance between the car and the paved street. The bathrooms, located across the paved private street, are ADA compliant.
Cool glassblowing facility and retail shop. Designs are original and reasonably priced. Active glass blowing taking place at time of visit. Located in historic Harmony, CA It is fascinating to see how the friend, kind and expert glass designer, made spheres for the Christmas tree.
All unique and original stuff to be found here! Beautifully displayed handmade pieces. Wished I could take it all home! Even sign up for your own glassblowing class! My mother did it and she loved it! Definitely looking forward to my next visit!
Cool glassblowing facility and retail shop. Designs are original and reasonably priced. Active glass blowing taking place at time of visit. Located in historic Harmony, CA touting a population of 18. I only counted four locals.
What a unique little shop with some truly GORGEOUS pieces all made on-site from scratch. You get what you pay for here not to mention the ability to see these fine folks working on some of the items in-house. Our friend has a whole collection of the glass pumpkins that she's been building over the years...we, of course, ended up walking away with a couple of our own. Harmony as a whole is a nice little hole-in-the-wall stop with some one-of-a-kind craftsmanship that is worth a detour. Check it out!
What an INCREDIBLY unique handcrafted shop. Definitely worth stopping by. I bought a beautiful glass-blown wind chime and some large marbles. The Harmony Cremery is there so we ate lunch and had ice cream. Harmony's population is 18!
Shared Harmony Glass Works with an out-of-town friend last month and ended up enrolling in their glassblowing class. Instructor Nate was a kind, thoughtful and informative helping me to achieve a useful, food safe, hand-crafted container I will cherish. Don't miss the chance to stop at Harmony Glass Works where the people and products are gloriously unique.
My best friend and I did 2 classes back to back and Nate had his heart in our projects and learning the whole time. He worked hard to teach and guide us and the results were 2 absolutely beautiful bowls I only have the photo of my own below plus new knowledge and learning. The charming town of Harmony, the dedication to the arts and learning the craft, plus the lovely folks everywhere in town made for an unforgettable experience. Whether just visiting to look at beautiful glass of many genres, shopping, or being a glass working student, you will not be disappointed. Just lovely! It's not just a town, but a community of real artists who want to share their love and skill with all. Thank you, Nate and Harmony Glassworks!
Pleasant staff that were helpful, but did not follow you around and hound you. The artisan was not working on anything when I was there and that would have been interesting. The inventory seemed a bit overpriced. I ended up buying a pair of earrings
