Hartwood Volunteer Firemen's Association is a fire and rescue company located in Stafford County, Virginia.
“Coming in hot!”
In 1966, a disastrous fire struck the Hartwood, Virginia Community. At that time the nearest fire department was nine miles away in Falmouth, Virginia. The loss of a neighbor prompted the community members to explore establishing a volunteer fire department. Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department members and Hartwood Community members met at the Hartwood Presbyterian church to discuss the formation of such department. Falmouth members agreed to supply equipment if the Hartwood community would provide its housing. In conjunction with the Hartwood Community League land was donated and a building was erected. Construction was then finalized in 1967.
At the January 8, 2009 Membership Meeting for Hartwood Fire Department, the department voted to expand the building by raising the roof on the original building (circa 1967) to a two-story structure. The membership felt that in order to serve the community better that we needed to enhance the sleeping, training, and work areas. On Septemtber 26, 2009, the new addition and renovations were formally dedicated by a community wide event. The expansion project was officially dedicated to L. Steve Dempsey.
Hartwood Volunteer Firemen's Association, Inc currently houses a 1000 gallon Engine, 2500 gallon Tanker, BLS Ambulance, ALS Ambulance, Brush Pick-up, and a 1953 Willys Brush Jeep.
