Harvard Stadium

Description

Harvard Stadium is a U-shaped football stadium in the Allston neighborhood of Boston, in the United States. Built in 1903, it was a pioneering execution of reinforced concrete in the construction of large structures. Because of its early importance in these areas, and its influence on the design of later stadiums, it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The Stadium is owned and operated by Harvard University and is home to the Harvard Crimson football program. It was also home for the New England Patriots in the 1970 season, their first after the AFL–NFL merger, before the completion of Foxboro Stadium. The stadium seats 30,323. The stadium seated up to 57,166 in the past, as permanent steel stands (completing a straight-sided oval) were installed in the north end of the stadium in 1929. They were torn down after the 1951 season due to deterioration and reduced attendance. Afterwards, there were smaller temporary steel bleachers across the open end of the stadium until the building of the Murr Center (which is topped by the new scoreboard) in 1998.HistoryHarvard's stadium was constructed on 31 acres of land known as Soldiers Field, donated to Harvard University by Henry Lee Higginson in 1890 as a memorial to Harvard men who had died in the American Civil War. The structure, similar in shape to the Panathenaic Stadium, was completed in just 4½ months costing $310,000. Much of the funds raised came from a 25th Reunion gift by Harvard's Class of 1879. It is the home of the football team of Harvard. The stadium also hosted the Crimson track and field teams until 1984 and was the home of the Boston Patriots during the 1970 season, until Schaefer Stadium opened the following year.

Open to the public to work out, the stairs are famous for stair climbers and they are very hard to do. But they’re not the only way to work out here. You can also run around the track and there’s also a field next-door. Lots of street parking on the side
Very bare bones ncaa experience. We went to 'the game'. The stadium itself is pretty bare without much to write about. No seats, you sit on concrete. Not many female washrooms. The food options are limited. Great atmosphere for the yale vs harvard game and amazing tailgating outside the venue pregame. I would definitely recommend attending the tailgate. However in the future would watch the game at a bar after going to the tailgate.
Nice old fashion stadium. You just should walk here from Harvard Square or Harvard yard. Some places to shelter during very cold game days, but could have more dedicated space for this. I really recommend visiting Harvard athletes facilities. Rocks field ring soccer fields and the an others more
I went there to watch Harvard x Yale and it was an amazing experience!
very very huge, A place with a great view and cool breeze
Stairs 4 Troops one of the greatest event in which we can give back to the great men and women who fight for our freedom! It was such a great workout, the stairs had me sore for about 3 days after the event...it was for a great cause!
Cool place to visit.
Great historic field to watch sports. Except seating is difficult during a BIG game as it sells out. Then you can't find your seat. No one sits in their seat as they're poorly marked and very small. And not enough bathrooms!!
Great old time stadium. I think they should add large letters along the top "HARVARD STADIUM" to make it a real landmark. Big lit red letters!!! Letter-space-Letter etc
Classic and simple stadium. Easy to park. Good for stair exercise.
