Arman and Naira Vardanyan were born in the 1970s in Yerevan, Armenia. They started dance at the age of seven in one of the most recognized dance groups in Armenia called Bert Ensemble. Arman danced there for 20 years and Naira danced for 17. They were the best dancers within the group, with numerous solo performances. The Vardanyans traveled around the world, showcasing Armenian culture through dance. Arman graduated from Armenia’s Khachatour Abovian Pedagogical Institute Art of dance department. The couple met through Bert, and married in 1991. In 1995, the family moved to Los Angeles and established Hayastan Cultural Dance Center in 1996. Their primary goal was to start a dance center to unify Armenian-American youth and raise cultural awareness through dance. Later, they grew to implement other cultural dance forms in their teaching. Because of the importance of dance to them, they have involved their two sons, Tigran and Arsen, as part of the group since the establishment of the dance center. Today, they continue to attract newcomers to the group, and will soon be celebrating their 15th anniversary as Hayastan Cultural Dance Center.
