I have had a less than pleasant experience working with IBH. My first therapist here was great, but she left the service after some months. First of all, I do not recommend this place for students with a mental health handicap as they have a "No Forms" policy that they do not disclose about. I've asked to get about 3-5 forms signed by them that I absolutely needed in order to attend school and receive insurance, but they refused to sign all my forms and also gave me no reason as to why. It was until I did further questioning that I found out that they refuse to fill out any forms of any kind. This information should be fully disclosed to patients before signing on with a therapist, but it is not, and it proves to create problems for patients that are working or in school that require accommodations. Second, the DBT group is run poorly, and inconsistently, not at all like an actual DBT group is supposed to be run I have experience of being in a professionally run one. Third, IBH told me that DBT services were covered by my insurance, only to find out later that I was being billed $750. Not only this, but IBH has refused to help me deal with the problem or speak to parents about it even with authorization as they are the ones that deal with billing. Fourth, my father called Dr. Selkirk about an inquiry, and he said she would not talk to him and only talk to me. This was understandable; however, I called Dr. Selkirk numerous times after she told him this, only for her to never ever respond to my calls or emails. The tipping point for me was my therapist that I had after my initial one left the service. She lacked empathy and made me feel blamed. The trauma treatment at IBH is lacking as well as it seems that they do not go into your issues as thoroughly and again, lacks consistency, which is needed for progression.
Dr. Selkirk is a true compassionate provider and is authentic at what she does! She is kind, genuine, understanding and professional. It can be difficult to make the decision to get help from a therapist, but from our very first contact she built a connection immediately and I was able to share my thoughts and experiences openly. Allie made it easy to feel empowered towards the healing of my disorders, explaining why such feelings occur and teaching me how to deal with them. She is very sensible, soothing and engaged during treatment. During the sessions, she never sat there and said "uh-huh, sure". She gives you concrete feedback and helps you understand your concerns. She's welcomed me to go back whenever I need to, which is comforting to know. I feel like Allie truly cares about my well-being, which in my opinion is one of the most important qualities a therapist can have. Highly recommended with no hesitation! She'll help you get where you need to be.
