I have been meaning to write this review since my cousin was discharged from Nexus. This hospital is truly amazing. The staff can be considered angels. They care about the kids so much. They are patient, kind, comforting, hopeful, loving, and just as important, knowledgeable. My cousin had a tragic accident in which several of my family members passed away. My family was in a very difficult situation. 4 deaths and a cousin who has his whole life ahead of him and so much potential who know was practically a vegetable. Our general hospital in El Paso got in contact with Nexus and assisted in helping him get the funding. Nexus had not had a patient from El Paso but made all accommodations to receive and treat him. They also adjusted to him since we was a bit older than the usual children at the children's hospital. While there, I was in communication with the friendly, beautiful staff and would receive frequent updates of his progress. My cousin went into the facility a vegetable and a few months later walked out of there. He was able to talk, eat, comb his hair, have a logical conversation and much more. Nexus gave us hope that we needed in the worst of times. Nexus will always have my gratitude. God bless Nexus.
Jian ying I had and having a great experience with you. You do an amazing job. Your wound care profession is amazing. The wound that you have been treating for my son Kyle CREAL Jr. Is doing amazing in the healing process
I was at Nexus for 3 months from Nov 2021- Jan 2022. Unfortunately this place is absolutely the WORST place to send your loved ones for mental health services. Dr. Cassidy is the MOST HORRIBLE doctor that I have EVER dealt with in my LIFE. There is NO treatment plan. They over medicate you like crazy. Dr. Cassidy has a MAJOR CONFLICT OF INTEREST since he is not just the head of psychiatry, he is also the owner of the hospital. Meaning the more medications and the longer a patient stays there, THE MORE MONEY HE GETS. I am in the foster system and I was transferred from Florida to Nexus because this was a so called “safe and helpful facility”. Not even two weeks of staying at Nexus, Dr. Cassidy threatened my team to “ discharge me and leave me on street” if my team didn’t consent to the 6 medications they had prescribed me. Because of this, my team was forced to consent to the medications. Then on Thanksgiving day, a nurse threatened to give me a shot of tranquilizer, because I refused medication. The nurses and staff didn’t treat me like a human being. I was there for 3 months, and I didn’t have a single positive experience. On top of everything, because I was refusing medications, Dr. Cassidy sent me to Texas Children Hospital to have non consented feeding tube insertion surgery, so that they could force the medications through my stomach. This surgery was halted by my lawyer when we threatened to sue. The only reason I didn’t return back to Nexus was because I told the nurses and doctors at Texas Children’s what was going on at Nexus and they told me that there was no way they were sending me back. DON’T EVER SEND ANYONE TO THIS HOSPITAL.
Nexus Children's Hospital in Houston was a literal life saver for our beloved daughter & family. Our teenage daughter has complex medical/behavioral needs via a birth injury/brain injury medical negligence. Prior to being admitted, we experienced an unfathomable 2 years of local hospitalizations where a hellish pattern of being sent home after a few days of med tweaking/supposed stabilization never quite helped our child. In fact, she became sicker and more unstable as evidenced by her increasing self-injurious and aggressive behaviors. She and we were battered and beaten while attempting to navigate and coordinate with her multiple specialists who could not be in the same room or seemingly on the same page through no venue appropriate for our family's needs. We have nothing like Nexus & their amazing team of doctors, nurses and staff near our home state nor did any facility closer to our state have room or were willing to give her/us a chance. It's true that Nexus will take the most difficult cases when most won't. We were one of those cases. It was hard work, a lot of traveling and ups and downs for our 10-month stay. They didn't give up, and they believed in her and us. Because of their hospital-level status, ability to have almost every specialist rounding weekly, and their vast experience dealing with complex children, they were able to closely monitor everything they needed to keep our child medically safe, as healthy as possible and work on her medications, therapies and behavioral modifications concurrently. While humanity isn't perfect, Nexus has zero tolerance for staff who aren't there for the right reasons and honor employees who are. I can't tell you how at peace that helped me feel when I couldn't be physically present. They go above and beyond to provide a kind and compassionate and communicative environment for children and their families to heal and rehabilitate. They listen and communicate and work hard for their patients. I write this having just taken our daughter to our local zoo with no behavioral or medical incident... Something we thought we would never be able to do again until Nexus. The gratitude we have for the phenomenal Nexus family is never-ending. Thank you, Nexus! We love you!
My daughter A'Minia McClure was blessed to come to health bridge after suffering a 45min seizure and developing brain Damage. Where TCH said she wouldn't walk, talk again, nor be percent herself. The HB team , God, her and my husband and I proud them wrong. If it wasn't for the team doctors, nurses, therapists David, Brenda etc at Health Ridge, my daughter wouldn't be walking, saying mom daily and sounding out words. She might have a long ways to go, but she doing amazing since being there and going home. We take you all for all the love and support you all showed our babygirl and we love y'all.
I have been meaning to make this review for years as I was a patient back when I was 13 years old and clinging to life, and now I am 25 and about to receive my masters degree while studying abroad. Dr. Liaw and the entire care team at Nexus Healthbridge took me on after multiple physicians had dismissed my case and said there was nothing that could be done for me. I was extremely malnourished from being unable to eat properly for years. I recently received my medical records upon request, which was shocking that they were kept for so long, showing continued care for patients new and old. Reading through the novel in my hands, I see the extensive notes taken and special attention given to me at my greatest time of need. I left Healthbridge a different kid; I had gained weight, could eat again, and found joy in life once more. Of course I am not sure of the state of the establishment now, but I can say this hospital has seemingly always had a priority for doing everything they can to rehabilitate sick children.
I was at nexus Children’s hospital visiting my nephew. I was continually impressed with the employees attitudes and willingness to help. Even the maintenance man. It was one of those days where it was freezing in the morning and hot in the afternoon and it was hot in my nephews room. I told the nurse and in less than 5 minutes the maintenance man was there. He was checking the temperature and adjusting the thermostat. He was extremely polite and good natured. I didn’t feel like I was bothering him at all. He went back and forth and was working in the ceiling and sweating and just kept a great attitude. He didn’t stop until the room cooled off. He was very easy on the eyes and smiled and apologized for the inconvenience. My sisters were just gaga he was a tall drink of water for him and he was a total gentleman about it lol. And this wasn’t the only time an employee there was just extremely polite and making sure everyone was comfortable. Almost everyone I spoke to was like this and they seemed genuinely happy to help. I am glad my nephew is surrounded by good people when we can’t be there with him. I would recommend nexus Children’s to anyone suffering through the helplessness of caring for a child that they love and don’t have the knowledge or expertise to care for themselves. They have been a blessing in our lives.
I truly recommend this place to others. There are so many to name on all shifts and in each department so what I will say is All the staff is awesome wonderful and caring. The work and help they do with all the patients and their individual needs is really remarkable. They have helped my son reach all his goals and then some. They have made me, a parent staying with my son, feel so comfortable and welcome also. We will def miss all the staff, but take everything they have tought us and continue with our healthy living with our family and our future goals. Thank you all here at Nexus Children's Hospital.
My 7yr old daughter was a patient at Nexus Childrens Hospital from January 2020 to November 2020. We traveled from out of state to this facility for their specialized treatment and coma rehabilitation team for her accident related Traumatic Brain Injury and Diffuse Axonal injury acquired in Nov 2019. I was able to stay in the facility with my daughter 24/7 and establish a good relationship with the staff, doctors and nurses. They did an amazing job of making sure we were as comfortable as possible being here long term. Everyone here is so kind and respectful. Any questions or concerns I had were always dealt with the utmost professionalism. All of my daughter's therapists were just amazing. They all had experience with many TBI patients. She loved her Physical Therapists Miss Brenda and Miss Meena who were just absolutely great. My girl went from barely being able to move to pushing Brenda on a rolling chair down the hall while in her gait trainer. She had Miss Pat for the majority of her Occupational Therapy and gained so much more motor control while working with her. When we started she couldn't even move one arm away from her chest. Now she is picking things up with both hands on her own! Speech was a challenge for my daughter after her accident and was completely nonverbal when we arrived. Its still something she is working on but thanks to many months working with Miss Taryn she vocalizes a lot more and says Ma! Because of her TBI she also had trouble swallowing and eating. Taryn worked very hard to help Jordana reach those goals of being able to eat normal food and not have to rely completely on tube feeding. Dr. Toomey was so great at explaining things to me that I didn't understand about comas and TBI. Any questions or concerns I had were always met with thorough explanation so that I could understand how things typically work and what to expect. We absolutely loved all of the nurses and CNAs here. Even those that never had my daughter as their patient, like Miss Paula, were very caring with her. She absolutely adored Miss Shay and Mr. Rod, who were always timely, attentive to details and just super sweet people all the way around. She always enjoyed the activities set up for the kids by Mr. Jeremiah the "fun director" who always treated all the kids as if they were just normal kids without barriers. These interactions with Jeremiah and the other kids was always the highlight of her day. I could write all day about every single person we met here and how great they are. There are so many that went above and beyond for my girl and I, and treated us like family. And it wasn't just my daughter. I saw how they cared about every single kid there. I highly recommend this facility for those that are in the position of needing coma rehabilitation and therapies for TBI in children.
