Therapy for all ages, focusing on emotional, behavioral, and/or social difficulties
As a Registered Play Therapist, my passion lies with children and their families who have experienced trauma, abuse or attachment difficulties. Recent brain research has proven that the absence of a secure attachment with a primary caregiver negatively impacts the child’s normal developmental process. In order to ensure lasting, inner change in children they must develop a positive, consistent, and nurturing relationship with an attachment figure. My work focuses on developing this essential bond, which results in an integrated self and improved positive family dynamics.
The overall goal of my play therapy work is to foster healing in children and help them to grow emotionally, which will allow them the opportunity to thrive in everyday life. I take the stance that successful therapy must be an inclusive approach addressing all aspects of the child’s life, including home, school, and community. I recognize that it is only natural for individuals to seek a “quick fix” when problems arise in children or families. However, the limitation with a short-term approach is that children will likely heal in the immediate but typically symptoms reappear down the road. Attachment based play therapy will still provide these short-term solutions, but its core focus is to maintain long-term successful results for your entire family.
My philosophy is that children are unable to make long-term changes without the consistent reinforcement from all aspects of their life. Therefore, I offer an array of services to ensure that I am developing an inclusive treatment process that will result in lasting success. I will develop a personalized approach tailored to each client’s individual needs to help attain the personal growth the child and family are striving to attain. Services may include play therapy, family therapy, home based services, parent consultations, school based services and observations, and/or groups.
