Heather the Doula

About

Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Placenta Encapsulation

Description

I am a birth and postpartum doula working towards my certifications in each.

I have a passion for helping pregnant, laboring, and postpartum mothers, and wish to support the mothers and their families in any way that I can.

As your birth doula, I will visit with you and your partner 1-2 times before your birth, as well as always be reachable by text up until the birth. 2 weeks before and after your due date, I will be on call for you and ready to come attend your birth as soon you need me. During your birth, I will use a variety of techniques to increase comfort, and keep or get labor moving along. I will be there to support you and your partner as you enter a new phase in your lives. After your birth, I will visit you and your new baby at least once to check-in.

As your postpartum doula, I will work with you and your family for all your postpartum needs. Services can include, but are not limited to: sibling care, running errands, light housework, meal preparation, caring for your newborn, and emotional support. Night nurse duties may also be available upon request.

Placenta Encapsulation can be added to either of my doula services, or performed singularly. Encapsulating your placenta can greatly reduce your risk of postpartum depression, increase milk supply, and increase energy stores.

Having Heather support us through pregnancy and labor was a huge blessing as we welcomed our second daughter. With our first, the delivery was unnecessarily induced, the staff aggressively pushed their agenda, and each intervention led to another, resulting in a forceps delivery and a severe tear. Recovery was long both physically and emotionally. As I prepared for our second daughter's birth, I worked to ensure a different outcome, where both my baby and I were prioritized. Heather was a wonderful resource in navigating pregnancy, providing useful recommendations for exercises/stretches to help better position our baby and tips to help prepare my body for a successful delivery not tearing was my top priority. She also provided much needed emotional support, validating the anxiety I felt after my first, and coming in as a professional on our team vs the hospital's who could advocate for us in the moment. During labor it was great to have someone coach us through and advocate for what was important to me, especially once I was past the point of being capable of doing this. What made her really great was that she did all of this in a chill and respectful way so even when she pushed to ensure my wishes were honored, she was working with the hospital staff and not against them. For example, I did not want to deliver on my back or have any medication since these had caused challenges last time, and Heather was able to explain my past experience in a way that aligned everyone with the same goal. I'm thrilled that this birth ended with only minor nicks and no real tearing, and 10 days out I feel a thousand times better than I did at my 6-week check in after my first. We're grateful, believe Heather was key in getting us here and wholeheartedly recommend Heather.
Best decision I made for my daughter's birth! Heather came recommended by my birth center, and I found her on doulamatch.com. Throughout the whole prenatal, birth, and postpartum experience, Heather was there, sharing exactly the information and encouragement I needed. She was also great with my husband, helping him help me in my labor process. Overall, Heather was a very calming presence and was able to advocate for me with my care providers when I was in the middle of labor. I could not recommend her highly enough.
We’re 10-days post birth and still talking about how lucky we were to have Heather’s wisdom, guidance and support throughout our daughter’s arrival. Not only is Heather is a wonderful advocate for your needs and desires throughout the chaos of birth - she’s a hands-on, intuitive and seasoned pro for the endless variables replenishing snacks, positions, counter-pressure, helping partner know how to be useful, etc! that arise throughout labor. Highly recommended!
I have worked with Heather both professionally and personally. She is a fantastic resource for my birth class students and one of the doulas I always recommend they interview to see if she is a good fit for them. Heather has a sweet sense of humor and a way of keeping families chill during their birth experience. I also hear that she can pour water on a bellyfor hours like no one else! Love her!
I cannot say enough good things about Heather and would recommend her to anyone. She was the key to helping me fulfill my wish of having a natural, empowered birth. She was ready with recommendations of an OB that fit my birth wishes, education resources to prepare for birth and connected us with lactation consultants for in home assistance. I felt extremely valued by her as a person and never felt like “just another client”. Throughout my pregnancy and postpartum period she promptly answered my questions and always made me feel supported. She was an invaluable coach and advocate in the delivery room and I am just so grateful that she got to be part of our birth story. She is worth her weight in gold and we truly can’t recommend her enough.
We are so thankful for our Doula Heather! Our baby was born Feb 22, 2020 and Heather helped make our experience so much more better. We almost didn’t hire a Doula, but my goodness, I’m so glad we did. My husband and I prepared for a natural birth and Heather was so sweet and was completely on board with whatever we wanted for our birth. I really feel like she helped provide a safe space for my husband and I in the hospital. She also helped keep me grounded, specially towards the end when I felt like I couldn’t do it. I’m just so grateful for her! We love Doula Heather and I recommend her to everyone I know who is preparing to bring a baby into this world! As soon as COVID-19 ends, I hope we can catch up and she can see our growing baby.
