Whenever we pass through Chippewa Falls, we always stop for some food as it is the halfway mark for us. Unfortunately, we always stop at Culver's. This time, we decided to search for a place we can relax inside and have better and more options. We found it in Heckel's!!! It is only a couple minutes further down the road and the staff was so friendly. Heckel's is a typical American Family diner serving the basic American fare along with the comfort foods your grandmother would approve of. Walking in, we were greeted with a wall displaying all of the week's specials, from Creamy Chicken and Biscuits to Beef Tips to Meatballs over Mashed potatoes. Being that we were stopping in on a Monday, the special was Cream Chicken over Biscuits, which my bride and I both ordered. The cream chicken was thicker than a pot pie filling as it was hearty with large chunks of vegetables and chicken. We had a choice of sides. I chose the hash browns as I was torn between having a breakfast or lunch. My bride chose homemade mashed potatoes with gravy. Once finished, our very friendly, capable, server asked if we were thinking of dessert, such as pie! My response was "I wasn't when I came in but now I am." I ordered the lemon meringue pie. It was soooo good. My bride wanted a bite or two. She took more. This is the pinnacle of American Family Restaurants - Heckel's. If they don't offer pie, they ain't family! Overall, I am upset that we never looked until now for an alternative to our usual passing-through rest stop. Heckel's should have their name on the signs approaching the Exits to indicate they are a reason to stop. I know we will be stopping at Heckel's from now on. I want to try the Beef Tips.
I ordered the BLT n fries. I ordered my bacon crispy, extra tomato and on the bread. It was perfect! Fries were good too. My dining companion ordered the chopped beef with fries. The chopped beef was gross! The texture was chewy, the flavor was tasteless, which indicated that it was old. The sauce covering the beef was slimy and gelatinous making the beef all the worse. The fries were crumbled, appeared to be the end of the bag. The waitress offered to bring something else but we declined. Service was okay. No drink refills were offered, though. Table had wipe streaks on it, even though there was a spilled item smeared on my side, so not as clean as you'd like to see. We'd stop again but if there is one more problem, it will probably be our last visit.
I was actually pleasantly surprised the food was still good. I believe there was only one cook and one waitress but we actually didn’t wait long for food. I got the meatloaf which was good. And I love the breadsticks. They have a slight crisp outside and then chewy and warm inside. The potatoes were good, salad was fresh and very large. The boyfriend got a hamburger which was good also. I haven’t been to heckles in probably over 10 years because I assumed it went downhill and maybe it wasn’t good anymore but I was wrong. It may be a typical diner but food was actually good. I was surprised at the amount of daily specials too that were offered. It was really good and I’m sorry I doubted it! I used to go to heckles all the time. It was our after bar routine back when you could smoke in there. I’m not sure why I haven’t come in since. I will be coming more often! Also very clean inside still. I watch too many movies and thought this would be a run down and dirty place now. Certainly was not. Still has the same old decor but that don’t change how the food tasted. Yum!

Veggie Omlet doesnt state what veggies so I took a leap of faith and was beyond disappointed... it came with chunks of broccoli carrot and cauliflower... never in all my travels have I ordered a veggie omelet and have only gotten those veggies in it. The online ordering system doesn't allow for adding anything else inside you get it as ordered. No onion, no green pepper only one came with tomato. Just baffled the hashbrowns aren't cooked my hollandaise sauce is disgusting. The meat loaf is too salty. I'm 50 shades of disappointed. Never ordering here again.
We really enjoyed our meal here. ;- Our food was good, the prices fair and the service by Brooke excellent. Neat, clean, pleasant... checked all of our boxes. Will definitely stop here again.
One of the best dinners we've had at Heckles tonight! Mariah was such an amazing waitress and so very, very friendly! Thank you for such an enjoyable evening and delicious homemade food!
Found this nice place to go out to eat. Started out with the cheese curds which we're amazing. Had the meatloaf which was perfect and perfectly cooked. My grandma had the corned beef skillet which she liked. The service was excellent! Mikalya Dessert was delicious! Definitely a do over.
Decided to have a late lunch while my vehicle was getting oil change at blaine farm and fleet. I trusted the reviews on heckels website and only hope the out come would be good. The waiter sat in chair and didn't come to table until she realized there is someone who needs waited on. Ordered a burger that was greasy. I needed more tissues but the waiter didn't come back until toward the end of my stay. Another waiter sat in chair did nothing but bring water once i arrived.. Horrible service!! Too busy talking to other workers there and very loud and annoying. I left a 2.00 tip but I believe that was too much for the service I experienced. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant and would not be back again.
This is one of my FAVORITE spots to get good food locally. They have menus under glass on the tables for safety during these uncertain times. They request masks but DO NOT require them. Which I really appreciate. The food is amazing. I had the corned beef skillet and was very pleased. The menu is diverse and affordable. It's a great spot for parties, dates, or family dinner. 5 out of 5
