Herman's Soul Food and Catering is one of the best soul restaurants that I've ever had. I've been coming here for years and they've NEVER missed. I recommended family and friends who have driven all the way from Atlanta just to eat at Herman's Soul Food. Do yourself a favor and bless your life. Stop by and order anything on the menu. You will not be disappointed. Everything is AMAZING !!!!!! You can't go wrong....
Wasn't good this past Wednesday. Mac/cheese was just macaroni and melted cheese. Meatloaf was awful, NO TASTE. Workers taking orders need PUBLIC RELATIONS COURSES!. IF you do not have available what's ordered, call the person, you have a number. Put something else on plate if what you ordered not available. Person maybe can't eat it due to diet restrictions or simply don't want it.
They get really busy on Sunday afternoons!! But the food is the best you will find. Hands down, no other place in Chattanooga compares to Herman’s!! Make sure to get an extra side of that corn too!!! We Hermans!! It is a 25 minute drive to get there for us and 25 back home and we do it all of the time, it is my Happy Place. And the best part is the sweet lady that’s always running the show, I just love her
What's happening guys ! Herman's Soul Food ,and Catering has been happening. Its not only here, but throughout the Scenic City . I have had the pleasure of eating several meals from his place of business. It's a nice comfortable place, and you order over the counter. You can call in your order for pickup I've met him personally over the years. He is really a cool person, and outstanding business man. The advantage for me is been a former cop now retired. I have eaten at just about every eating establishment in Chattanooga. Does this make me an expert ? No, but my patrols have taken me throughout the Scenic City . Man ! I Chatt Town. So does my stomach eating some delicious . Either my co-workers have picked up something on the fly . Some of y'all might get this ! This is about Herman's. Thanks, For the years ! I have eaten his catering from various Events, Holidays, Reunions, and different places over the years. Do I have a favorite food not really ? It's All Good ! However, I love the oven roasted chicken with on top of steamed rice. Million dollar meatloaf . . Let me just say it's not like you had before. That's why it's High Dollar . Last time you had Ham Hocks ? These are off the bone . You can get on the phone . Get it ? Call today ,don't delay or by. I Chatt Town Mr.C.
The folks at Herman's continue to out-do themselves time and time again! The food seems to get better every time, and don't even get me started on that Key Lime Cake!!! But by far the BEST part is the people who always have a smile and that's not always easy working with the general public.
First time eating at this restaurant in town for business and I’m telling you FIRE,,,this is absolutely an amazing place the wonderful ladies working the front was very very nice but the food is absolutely delicious I had fried catfish with Mac and cheese and turnips oh my I wanted to get another plate please don’t look no further this is it if you want some good food order in advance if you can!!!!
My Mom and I were looking for a place to eat near my new house, and after a previous disappointment in a "southern food" restaurant, we decided to try Herman's based on reviews and the online menu. When we got there around 6 there was only one other car in the parking lot so we were hesitant. Walking in, the place is nothing fancy. We were told to sit wherever we wanted. A small group of women came in after us. We sat there for a few minutes and it became obvious that the other women were regulars because they were waited on ahead of us while we were barely acknowledged and I was afraid this was going to be another bad dinner. The server chatted up the women and talked to them about oxtail, which I didn't see on the menu. I kind of butted in and asked about it because I love oxtail. He then came over and took our orders and became somewhat friendlier, bringing out a sample of oxtail for me. My Mom ordered the smothered pork chops and I ordered the fried catfish filets. I wasn't sure what kind of beans I wanted in addition to my Mac n cheese so I asked him to just being me whatever their best beans were. He brought out our food very quickly, along with the table that arrived after us. The portions were big. He also brought me sides of every bean they had! The only issue we had with the food was that there was quite a bit of fat and gristle on the one pork chop my Mom ate. We ended up taking home enough food for another 2-3 meals! And my catfish was amazing, both times!! I introduced myself to our server and told him I was moving about 5 minutes away. He said his name was Vaughn, and though things started slow, he ended up being very nice and told me to ask for him again. I'd definitely come back!! By the time we left the restaurant was very busy so I guess 7 pm is peak for them.
Let me start by saying the Atmosphere is very cool and quiet. But the food at this place was very disappointing. We Started off with an appetizer of the Buffalo wings. These wings Were super dry, and nothing Buffalo about them, are drinks we're a Sweet Tea and a Lemonade which we're way too sweet for our liking. Then we proceeded with the Main courses. Which on the menu is labeled "Million Dollar Meatloaf“ more like Million Dollar MeatMess, Like A Frozen Stouffers is superior to what I ordered. We also had a Fried Pork chop dinner with sides, the chops were well seasoned yet a Little too salty, the Blacked eyed peas, Please forget about it. The Mac n Cheese was the only thing up to standard with this so Called Soul Food Place. The fried green tomatoes were just okay, and the potatoe salad was decent. The cornbread was ridiculously nasty and bland. The service people were kind, but not up to anyone's standards because they don't write your order down, they try to memorize what we you order which leaves plenty of mistakes to be made. I also have not had to ask for a refill in quite some time, so now I will have to reset my count. We heard of this place from a few people who spoke about it, but after our visit, we will not be victim to this place again.
SEPT 2023 UPDATE: Good food, good service. On Sundays if you're walking into place an order there may be a bit of a wait because of how popular the restaurant is. Usually great service and great food! A wide ranging menu of traditional home-style southern dishes with large portions. However, at my most recent visit, although I placed an online order, when I arrived to pick it up the doors were locked and no orders were ready. I waited for an hour before leaving to go get food somewhere else.
U dont usually get spaghetti at a soul food joint, these guys do it well - memphis platter. The corn bread was dry but candied yams made up for it. Catfish plate was ordered by several at the table and they loved it. Family service was nice to see. They have homemade cake up front and plenty of sides to choose from.
