I had rented a full-sized SUV from a Hertz in Auburn, AL and after driving it down to Tampa, I realized that it had a shake if you went over 70. It was probably just a tire rotation needing to be done but just wanted to be safe and swap it out to ensure I wouldn’t have problems getting back. Greg the manager and Carlos were extremely helpful and went above and beyond to get me into another full-sized SUV. The 2019 Tahoe they gave me was fully loaded, was in really good condition and gave me zero problems getting back. 12/10 experience.
Easy pickup, and customer service was friendly even on a late night. Was told what spot to go to. A suggestion would be make it easier to know where the 500s were...several of us were walking around all ending up trying to find the 500s. Beyond easy drop-off/rental return. Nice to not have to fill up with gas again. Only thing was the car smelled like smoke. So -1 . But would use this service again. Picture is the red rental car, not taken at TPA International Airport.
I can’t believe how low Hertz has gotten. Hertz used to be the top car rental company in my opinion. It’s sad to say it no longer is. I think you’re better off renting at a “no-name” car rental than at hertz. We reserved and prepaid for a car under my name and the moment we got there they wouldn’t let my wife pay with her credit card for the hold which was never the case before. After an hour or so of trying to check in and get to the car, it’s FILTHY. not dirty, but FILTHY. It has scratches and dents all over. The interior smelled like it had been left wet for days and the stains were disgusting. Not only we’re the seats stained all of them but the center console was filled with some sort of grime. The stench was so bad that we stopped to get a fabreze fresh scent bottle. There was no way we were going back to the check in counter to deal with that poor customer service and possibly get charged ANOTHER FEE. We won’t be returning to rent from Hertz again and we urge anyone else reading this. Save your money, go somewhere, anywhere else. If I could give zero stars that would be more appropriate but sadly I can’t.
TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR RENTALS BEFORE AND AFTER RETURN!!! They Will try to charge you for damage that was not your doing. I received an $1800 bill from Hertz because they claimed my rental car had been T-boned. I can guarantee with 100% certainty that the vehicle was in 100% the exact same condition as when I picked it up in Orlando when I dropped it off. I am a car guy and am very aware of any damage on a car. However, they don't inspect vehicles upon drop off. They tell you to grab your bags and leave the vehicle. After this point of time either someone hit the car while it was parked or when the workers took off with it to "clean" they got into a wreck and it was easier to just blame it on the previous renter me than admit fault. When I called to talk to them to discuss the claim originally they wouldn't speak to me and claimed not to have any information regarding the claim, They told me not to worry about it and to just ignore any emails I had received because they didn't have anything in their computers. Yet they have no issues sending me bills by mail threating collections agency involvement. I was also informed that they attempted to call my old auto insurance company behind my back without any discussion with me first. Because I don't have photos of my own from when I dropped the car off and picked it up, I have no way to fight this claim and am now stuck with an $1800 bill. I will never be using Hertz auto rental again and I recommend you all do the same. If you do decide to use this company please take photos of your car from all angles before and after rental so you are prepared when they come after you with an unwarranted damage claim.
My family is so greatful for the Hertz rental. I prebooked with another company. Our flight was delayed because of so much spring break travel. When we arrived no one was at the car rental company until 5 AM the next day. We would have had to wait 5 hrs! My husband said let's see if anyone has something available. The Hertz company gentleman was staying late for his customers because he knew flights were delayed and he had open rentals coming in. He had one a available and ready to go. We even ended up saving money. It was so easy finding the car, it was clean and ready to go. No complaints at all. I did not get his name but he really helped this stressed out mom. Thanks so so much!!!!
Long gone are the days when Hertz deserved and worked for its position as number one. This is what just happened to me and I shudder for people who aren't forearmed. This is your forewarning. My wife and I rented a car from Hertz/Dollar at Tampa International. We rejected as we always do the offer to prepay gas at ridiculous/per gallon. Instead we brought it back full with the needle showing well above the full mark see below. We had kept receipts also below and I took a picture of the dashboard showing mileage when returned and gas at full+. When we arrived home we learned we'd been charged $157 for gas on top of a bunch of fees that are, I guess, particular to Tampa International. I called Hertz took forever to get a human and was told their notes reported that I'd returned the car with tank only half full. I was told to go to the online hertz site and submit the receipts and I'd be taken care of. I went to the given website which consisted of drop-down choices no way to say anything and no way to upload anything. I wrote to executive customer service assuming erroneously that my slam-dunk case would get a quick response. It did and I was told that according to the attendant who processed in the car the tank had been returned half full. I explained I had proof he was a nitwit and asked the question and this is what this review is about: Is the fact that I was marked half-full A an honest mistake on the part of a not-too well trained employee; or B an automatic policy of the Tampa International location to mark everyone who doesn't pre-purchase gas as having returned the tank half-empty thus justifying slapping a fuel charge on credit card; C or is it a policy of Hertz nationally to do this, knowing full well that most people will not have saved receipts or taken a photo? It's a diabolical thought, but not outside the realm of credibility sadly. After several more exchanges and after I uploaded picture and receipts, I received a terse email saying I was wrong and that the attendant was right, but as a one-time gesture of good faith, they would refund the $157 they'd taken. I don't understand how they can reject the validity of date stamped receipts and a photo showing mileage and tank status. I fear they have a policy again, whether national or site-specific I have no idea of trying to get away with it because there are overwhelming numbers of renters who it will be easy to cheat because they didn't save receipts, don't speak English well, etc. The money was deposited back to my credit card account. But who's going to compensate me for the hours I spent resolving kind of the matter? SAVE RECEIPTS/TAKE PICTURES! BETTER YET, AVOID HERTZ, DOLLAR, THRIFTY.
Buyers Beware. Roaches. You can find my post on Facebook and Instagram. Please share. The pick up was very smooth and quick. However, on the 1st night I saw some roaches in the back seat and wasn't sure if they crawled in. The next morning I had to be sure so I bought some sticky traps and set one up under the driver seat. During the day it caught a few babies so i started calling to get the issue resolved. Unfortunately, I call the Tampa Airport location several times and no one answered. That night I called roadside assistance and finally talked to someone. The lady asked me if I can take to car 2 miles in the morning to the local branch and I could get a replacement car. I also set up another trap in the trunk. When I arrived at the local office they didn't have any cars they could spare. Also, I checked the traps and they were filled with German Roaches. I refused to drive the car anymore and left it at the local office. I did need a car because I had an appointment that morning. The manager said I could call roadside again and ask them to bring me a car. Unfortunately, when I called roadside and asked the representative to check my open ticket for the previous call, she put me on hold. Before even asking me how she could help, she said she talked to the manager and could offer me a $50 coupon. I wanted to talk to a manager but apparently none were available. Only a $50 coupon is ridiculous. They are not considering my request for a full refund eventhough I had to pay full price for an infested car that was returned early and left me stranded without a car.
Getting a vehicle at Tampa Airport is a seamless process. Hertz made the reservation, registration, and return a simple as well. When picking up the car, I was able to pick out the car I wanted within the class I request, and when I returned the car, I pulled in and dropped the car off, and Hertz did the rest. I was fortunate to get a great price for my week long rental. Very pleased!
This was the worst car I've ever rented. The interior smelled of smoke and there were scratches on the inside and outside of the car. The smoke was unbearable, so I tried calling the Hertz office at the airport and couldn't get anyone to pick up the phone. The day I returned the car there was no one in the garage.
I picked up a car here to make a 1 day trip to Miami. First off, the people working in the garage/pickup/drop off location clearly hate their lives. They are quick to basically kick you off the property, in and out. Very dismissive. First car I received was a newer Jetta. I left and was about 30 miles south when I noticed ants were coming out of the vents nonstop. Killed over 20 and 3 were on my body. I messaged through the app and the lady was helpful and suggested I returned the car. So i did and this delayed my trip 2 hours. I didn’t arrive in Miami until 9pm that evening. Once I was getting out of the new car in Miami, I noticed a dead bug on the passenger floor. I went to message again in the application and the new person on the other side was ZERO help. Just wanted my money and to extended the rental. I just blew it off. Extended my rental myself. I wasn’t offered any type of compensation for my loss of time or the fact I received 2 cars with dead bugs. Honestly don’t even care about the money at this point. I’ll get through this week, return the car, and not rent from the location again. I’ll pay extra to go through another service.
