High Tor Gear Exchange is a combination of our love of the outdoors and our desire to transform the way we buy stuff, in this case, how we buy the clothes and products we need to spend more time outside. The inspiration for the shop came about in part as we sought a way to have a positive impact in Charlottesville, as well as to create a movement towards more conscious consumption. Our goal is to give the Charlottesville community access to high quality used outdoor gear and clothing, and to create an avenue for participation in the circular economy.
MISSION
Our mission is to provide environmentally responsible buying options for outdoor gear and clothing. We support local individuals, businesses, and nonprofits who are stewards of the environment and advocates of outdoor exploration.
WHAT WE DO
Opening in February 2018, High Tor Gear Exchange is Charlottesville's first home for ethically-minded outdoor gear and clothing consignment. We sell quality new and used gear and clothing, and feature outdoor products crafted by local artisans.
We connect members of the Charlottesville community with the resources needed to get outside, and provide a gathering space for outdoor and environmental programming and events.
As members of 1% for the Planet, we want a portion of your dollars spent here to be part of a global movement to accelerate environmental giving at the local level.
Additionally, our unique consignment model provides scholarships that enable local youth to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, inspiring deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world.
