About

Welcome to Highbrook Lodge's Facebook page. We want this to be a fun , informative, and safe place to stay up-to-date on all things Highbrook.

Description

Good things are happening at Highbrook operated by Cleveland Sight Center since 1928. Programs are available for children, teens, families, and adults who have vision impairments or blindness. Children programs include sessions for children ages 8 to 11, 12 to 14, and teens 15 and above in school. Highbrook Lodge’s children’s camp sessions offer an inclusive setting.

Camp activities include arts and crafts, nature and outdoor education, swimming, sports and recreation and special events. Campers participate in camper council, planning talent shows, banquet nights, camp outs under the stars, and cabin clean-up. Special guests and programs often are included. Campers have field trip options to horse riding stables, fishing, nature centers and other area attractions.

Independence and self-sufficiency are encouraged. Highbrook staff and program will provide opportunities for campers to use and improve their orientation and mobility skills, independence in activities of daily living, technology, Braille, audio books, and more. Campers will build confidence and self reliance under the watchful eye of staff trained to provide sighted guide and promote independence.

Children at Highbrook participate in a structured activity day. 24-hour supervision and attention offer first-time and returning campers a memorable camp experience. Families and adults have different options available with the special needs of the child or adult who is blind or visually impaired accommodated with adaptations. Staff include a resident Registered Nurse and on site participation of professional staff from Cleveland Sight Center.

Mission
