This school is not as bad as some people may think, most of the people are nice and a lot of the teachers are good at teaching. There are some bad things at this school like drug use and distribution as well as discrimination. Overall it is pretty good and I was in the engineering center so maybe normal classes are different, but if you want to go here then do so, if not just don't there are plenty of schools and specialty centers to choose from.
Reading the reviews you would think that HSHS is a bad school. A few of the reviews sound like they are all relating to the same incident. Honestly, I thought the same thing about HS when I first moved here because that's what I heard. It wasn't until my oldest daughter became a student of their Advanced College Academy that I had the chance to deal with them. Newsflash...it's high school. There are no shootings, no stabbings, no one is getting robbed. Are there bullies? Yes. Are there kids that don't go to class? Yes. Are there bad seeds? Yes. Are there lockdowns? Yes, to protect the students from outside AND inside threats. But that is any high school in America. My daughter graduated with a 4.2 gpa from this school. My youngest daughter is a student now with a 3.4 gpa and my son is now a freshman. The school is accredited with students that care about their grades and teachers that care about their students. That does have a lot to do with the football team AND cheerleader squad that are 3 time state champs...back to back to back. Yes, I am a cheer mom. I have no issue with Highland Springs....it is a great school.
Highland Springs High School is a variety of good and bad. It's all about choices. People can say that it's a terrible school, but you can't blame the whole school for what some of the students, and for what some of the staff has done. Each student has a choice. Each staff member has a choice. It is true that a lot of things can be prevented from happening at HSHS. Nobody focuses on the students that are doing right, nobody acknowledges us. We all just see a bunch of teenagers fighting, making bad grades, and failing SOLs. So the school is 50/50.. Everyone has a choice of how their years of high school is going to be... Whether they're gonna make good grades, or whether they're just going to not care about good, and do things just to get by... Or just simply fail. Everybody has a choice... So don't blame the whole school.
This is not Dameon Baldwin I am just using his account Honestly.. If i wrote an honest review of my former high school I would have to point out these experiences in my point of view.. I am a black female that graduated in 2014 1. I was quiet and it wasn't really hard for me to stay out of trouble MOST of the time 2. All teachers are different. I had some that cared a great deal and some that only payed attention to the loud mouthed out spoken "popular" students. 3. You'll only be recognized for your hard work if you are "popular" which is hard for the hard working students that deal with anxiety. 4. Mrs. Hargrove is a doll and I love her to death. In my opinion she does her job well. 5. There are many different groups of kids. and many kids in general.. 6. I will say that HSHS lets the kids get away with too much, and do too much to the children at the same time. they let bad awful students get away with profanity, walking out of class, back talking, and in some cases bullying... But they also OVER do it some times as well.. consistent lock downs, not being able to use the bathrooms, etc.. 7. Honestly. This is a ghetto school. Not because that it is majority "black" because any race can be ghetto. But because in my opinion most of the students CHOOSE to be ignorant and disrespectful. because they think it is cool why i will never know but dealing with these kinds of students can be tricky for the teachers and other adults.. Because most of the time the parents will not do anything because they are just as disrespectful and ignorant as the child. not all parents but a good amount. So sometimes there is just no talking with the parentsif you can even get a hold of them at all.. so what do they do? they can't touch the child in anyway. so i can see how this can be difficult to handle. 8. Varina and the others are about the same.. I visited Varina and they were just as bad if not worse than Highland Springs. 9. My over all view of my formal high school is okay.. I still have mixed emotions about it. But no matter how crappy everyone else thinks it is...this was the place I found comfort in at times.. The friends that i had there are now considered to me as family. and if you go to HSHS you'll find your family. no matter how bad you think the school is. It's a love/hate thing.
Worst school ever. ... Nothing but drugs run through the school from teachers and student! Teachers also having sex with students! Are you kidding me! Who ever says you had the best time at HSHS is crazy! They were trying to suspend me for getting beat up but oh they wouldn't suspend the people who did it! I HATE THAT SCHOOL AND I HOPE IT GETS SHUT DOWN!
I don't think I would send my son to your school. You allow a child to be bullied to the point he fights back. One against many bullies. Then you charged the boy after he has spent 9 days in the hospital and the bullies who suffered no real harm go?! Your students need a lesson about bullying and the treatment of others as well as having your schools mistreatment of the poor gay kid who is paying the price.
I love my school. I graduated in 2003. We had a great fine arts and athletic department. HSHS is growing everyday. I would send my own child to this school without hesitation.
I see alot of people saying highland springs is a bad school its gang affiliated its fights and shootings etc.. I graduated from there on 2004 and that was never experienced anything like that. Yea its a different generation now but i know some people that go there now and they dont have no problems or issues there. Think about it stuff like that aint just at that school if it is there are issues at some of these other schools too. Dont just put it on highland springs cuz thats not the case. Then i hear they a bad school cuz they serve fries everyday and sometimes the pizza burnt and they serve salad. Now thats just petty. If u dont like the food then dint eat it or bring your own food..or are you scared you gone get laughed at. I mean some of the things people saying are so petty..
I loved the school and I love the teachers I had except one but other than that I loved the school. People there were nice and I had a lot of friends there and there was barely any drama there!!!! I love this school GO HSHS!!
This school seems like a cesspool for bullying, a terrible quality for an educational place. They let a 14 year old get bullied to the point he's sent to the hospital, and then try to bring charges against him! What the hell is wrong with these people?
