About

The Historic Hemet Theatre, Proudly Serving Downtown Hemet since 1921

Description

The Historic Hemet Theatre Foundation is a 501(c)3 charity dedicated to the acquisition, renovation and operation of Hemet's vintage movie house as a community arts center. Its seating capacity of 410 makes it the largest theatre in southeast Riverside county.

The HHT project has three key impacts: 1) historic preservation of a 1921 movie house (one of the oldest in the nation); 2) cultural enrichment through performing arts and educational programming; and 3) economic revitalization of Hemet's historic downtown district.

Events hosted include concerts, films, live theatre and educational programs on topics of interest to residents of the valley and the surrounding communities. Programming is designed to appeal to a wide range of demographic groups.

Partnerships with local organizations offer fundraising opportunities for nonprofits and educational programming, on topics such as drug use, bullying, women's issues - usually at no cost to patrons. Local non-profits are offered a 50% reduction in rental rates.

The Foundation operates the facility under a 5-year lease/purchase agreement. With owner financing, only $60k is needed to complete the sale (over $15 has already been raised).

Donations to the project are tax deductible. For information on the Foundation, call the Box Office.

Venue rentals are available for public or private use. For information, call the theater Box Office at (951) 658-5950.
