Wagon master & guide Nick Carter led our group on a recentI half day ride. We had a terrific time! Nick's knowledge of area history was thorough and he made the day fun for all. We had novice and intermediate riders in our group and Nick helped us all grow our skills while making sure everyone was safe. After the ride, Fiola cooked us a wonderful meal and told more stories about the ranch and area history. I highly recommend this experience and this company.
Our teamster, Maggie was a joy, a great driver of the Conestoga Wagon we road in and full of much knowledge about the history on the trails and the groups that used the various trails. The food cooked by Fiola was delicious with plenty of peach cobbler! The view both on the trails and during the dutch oven dinner was gorgeous with the setting sun behind the teepees. We saw much wildlife and seeing the old telegraph poles added to the feel of our travel. My only complaint was the other wagon rider we had with us that talked on her phone the whole time of the ride. This didn’t diminish our experience though since Maggie took it in stride and just kept answering our questions and giving her trail stories. Next time i think we will do a three day adventure trip or the overnight stay. Thanks, Historic Trails West for the fun!
Great experience if you want small taste of what the pioneers on the Oregon trail experienced. Although the food was very good, dinner and breakfast, cooked over fire, we barely had a campfire which was where food was cooked and no stories about the Indian paintings on TIPI. The TIPI was a mattress and sleeping bag pillow was somewhat comfortable for sleepingon ground. But still a great experience for kids and adults. Highly recommend!
Historic Trails West is incredible! This checks all the boxes for a terrific family excursion: living history, outdoor adventure, local culture and horses! Our group was a mix of local residents and out of state visitors; young children up to seniors and it was greatly enjoyed by each of us. The company is friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. The Dutch oven meal was delicious. This is a must do when in Wyoming!!
Great experience. Lots of history from Morris about what the westward settlers had to go through. Great photo opportunities and a great meal at the end. I would love to go on a multi-day adventure.
Amazing experience! The tour guide is a 3rd generation local that built a Conestoga wagon from the blueprints. Has a wealth of information about the history of the Oregon Trail. I road a horse while my mom road the wagon. They even provided pillows for our comfort. We had the Dutch oven cookout of steak and peach cobbler with all the trimmings out on the trail. I will never forget this experience! A must for all!
My mother and I absolutely loved it. Our guide was extremely knowledgable, kind, and patient. We got a real taste of what life was like back then on the Oregon trail. He was very passionate and best of all, they cooked us a mean steak! Definitely recommend this, it was the highlight of our trip! Truly amazing.
So much fun. Knowledgeable staff about the wagon trains. The overnight with dutch oven super and breakfast was great. Food was amazing!!!!! We had a nice group of young women staying overnight at the same time and had so much fun at the camp fire. Thanks for the adventure.
It started out with a bad experience, a mix up of riders. One horse for 2 riders. They did however bring the Mule down later for second Rider. We did the overnight and enjoyed the stay with Maggie and Fiola who made our stay very enjoyable. The meals were great and the improvised campfire coffee was delightful. Living with no electricity, washing in the Platte River, and sleeping in Teepee was fun.. Hope to return next yr for a 3 day adventure with Maggie and Fiola.
If you are a history buff and up for an adventure then Morris Carter will make your day with his stories and knowledge of the Oregon and California Trails. I came from Texas to be a workcamper with him and every day I learn new things. All the guests have a great time and the scenery is breathtaking.
