The Department of History at the University of Southern Indiana seeks above all to teach students to understand, analyze, and interpret the past, to evaluate critically the ways in which the past shapes the current world, and to provide students with the skills to communicate their knowledge and ideas effectively. The department’s mission includes introducing the study of history to all USI undergraduates in the core curriculum and offering a well-developed, diverse, and up-to-date program of historical study to advanced undergraduates, including those training to be secondary-level history and social science teachers.
Faculty members produce historical knowledge through their research and writing and share this knowledge through their teaching, scholarly presentations and publications. Students conclude their careers at USI with original research and writing, internships, and other community-based activities.
