My son couldn't wait for me to leave so he could go off by himself and make new friends. It looks like a great place for the kids to spend a week. Lots of activities to do and learn as well as hockey training.
I would like to rate less than a one star. My child was leaving for camp and on that very same morning a very close family member shockingly passed away. We have requested for a refund and consideration during this tragic turn of events. The camp has denied our request, will keep the large $1500 camp fee within their accounts and only if my daughter attends next summer 2024 can she have access to the funds. During this difficult time, to have a business not review their policies for such circumstances is awful business ethics and shows no compassion during these unforeseen and devastating times for our family.
Best summer camp experience I've ever had, counsellors always ready to provide every need for a camper. Great meals with plenty of variety. Kept me coming back to this place every summer for over 6 years.
I came to this camp for 8 years, from day camp to senior. Each summer I was so happy to be coming back. This is the best summer camp experience you will ever get. With on ice hockey training daily, lots of daily activity’s like mountain biking and water skiing, the talent shows that brought together the entire camp, and the BEST food and always felt full. You will not regret your time here. Kevin One of the camps owners truly knows how to operate a summer camp. I hope to come and visit the camp again soon just to relive some of the memories.
All 3 of my children have been going to this camp for about 8 years minus covid times. It is very organized and a true camp. It offers a wide variety of activities and the kids are kept busy. The staff are fun, energetic and work really hard. The ice time is fun and not too much for the off season. Just keeps their legs fresh. I love watching the final games because kids are smiling and having so much fun. They have the chance to be creative on the ice. It’s nice to see all levels playing together and enjoying the ice time. The lake that the camp is on is gorgeous and clean. The cabins are rustic but give a true camp experience. My kids always come home happy, well fed, with new friends and ready for another year.
Second year for my son, very organized staff is very experienced and knowledgeable. Fair price great camp.
Great camp. Very nice setting. Well organized and good counselors. My oldest son has gone 5 years now. Only complaints from the kids is - no free time, they always march you on to next activity - the hockey training is not rep level. They do very basic training without much complexity.
You want your kid to come home from camp excited about their week away and gushing about the experiences. When I went to camp as a kid, it was memorable. My son's answer to "How was it?" was "Meh, it was okay." He said there was a lot of "sitting around." He also told me his group senior boys was not allowed any free swimming which, if accurate, is shocking. How can you spend a week at a lake and not be allowed to swim? It's ludicrous. He was looking forward to water skiing but told me each skier only had about 2 minutes each day on the rope. So disappointing when that was one of the activities that had sold us on the camp. He enjoyed the mountain biking. He also enjoyed hanging out with his friends but he can do that for free at my pool and he would have been able to swim. I had some dealings with the camp administrators during my son's week away. They were professional, courteous and quick to respond. I was impressed with them. If this camp revisited their programming, hired some more counsellors if needed, and gave these kids a week to remember, I think they would be a stand out camp. I'm editing this because I think it's important to clarify that my son was not in the hockey stream. If Hockey Opportunity Camp is truly geared for the hockey stream, then they need to focus and stop selling the "Overnight Ultimate" stream. Sitting on a lawn chair for half a day does not constitute an ultimate experience. Make it better or scrap it.
Our daughter fell earlier in the week and was assessed at the medical clinic at camp. No phone call was made to advise us that she had a fall and was complaining of left wrist pain, with decreased motor function. We picked her up Saturday to find her left wrist swollen with obvious discomfort during movement and pain on palpation. We took her to emergency room and her wrist was fractured. The camp staff did nothing to support her. Her councilor left her to climb to her top bunk with no help to ensure she didn’t fall, they continued to put her on the ice for hockey and left her to pack and carry all of her belongs on her own on the last day. The staff failed at every turn to recognize that she was struggling and in pain. Our daughter is 9 years old and this was her first time away from home at camp.
Had loads of fun with my family!
