Incredible store housing a plethora of hifi gear, some of which are rare! I came in with a specific sound in mind, but I was not knowledgeable enough to know exactly what to look for. Chris and Kevin were so friendly, helped me audition so many systems, and worked hard to help me figure out exactly what I wanted! Mike made sure I was happy with what I was hearing in the store and went out of his way to help me and find the right system for my budget! Amazing service, amazing people, amazing gear! If you're in the area and are looking for an upgrade, a new system, or even just want to stop by and listen, Holm Audio is worth checking out for sure.
Our experience with Holm Audio was excellent. My wife and I went to see about repairing our old CD player and buying some new speakers. The owner Mike introduced himself and was engaging and generous. From the outside Holm Audio appears unpretentious, while inside it is a candy store for home audiophiles packed with audio equipment both new and used. John on Mike’s staff worked with us hooking up and trying out speakers until my wife found a pair she liked. These were a pair of KEF speakers which Mike had for $150 less than either Best Buy or Amazon. Instead of repairing our old CD player we found a nice used Sony CD player and while it did not have the remote Chris on Mike’s staff pointed us to a direct replacement remote on Amazon and offered us a free remote that offered basic compatibility. Mike spent quite a bit of time showing us around the store and when we were in a room full of vinyl albums and music books, my wife mentioned being a Beatles fan and Mike gave her a Beatles book of her choice. As if that was not enough, when I mentioned I was working to get my wife to replace her beloved 1976 Radio Shack receiver he gave us a used ONKYO receiver that was considerably newer than the one she had and sent us away with a full run of high-quality speaker wire for our new Speakers. I will be going back to Holm to buy our new receiver and would unreservedly recommend Holm Audio to anyone looking for audio equipment and excellent service.
Holm Audio is amazing! Mike is absolutely terrific. My husband had many stereo components. Since his passing, Mike has been wonderful in helping us sell some of his equipment. Mike is honest and very knowledgeable. Holm Audio is highly recommended!
My experience with Holm Audio was excellent! Mike and his staff worked with me and were very helpful in my purchase of gear from an audio show. Their personal attention and advice was priceless. Mike is approachable, knowledgeable and customer-focused. The store in Woodridge has a terrific selection of quality gear at different price levels, from well selected quality entry level equipment to truly esoteric high end gear with myriad choices in between. You can listen to various setups in several listening rooms. If you enjoy good sound, check out Holm Audio.
Holm Audio was awesome in helping me with the replacement of a phono cartridge on a sensitive turntable / tone arm. They went above and beyond to ensure everything was working properly and even followed up later to make sure it was working well at home! Chis knows his stuff and is great to work with. Check out all their rooms with the latest and greatest equipment for any budget. Highly recommend!
I’ll admit it, I love stereo stores. From the first time I walked into Soundmasters in South Bend’s Scottsdale Mall in the 70’s to my most recent purchase of a music server, the obsession for great sounding gear has never waned. Which leads me to Holm Audio. I’ve never really lived close to this store, but I’ve always enjoyed my visits there and consider myself a regular customer. The store is a modern-day throw-back to the stereo-store days of the past with product and accessories ranging from reference-level Audio/Video to used equipment, to everything in-between. There are multiple listening rooms. They take trade-ins! The store is fun, the staff and owner are friendly, knowledgeable, personable, and ready to answer any and all of your audio/video questions. I purchased a HiFi Rose audio server with the help of Mike Holm, the owner. While it was a little more than I wanted to spend, some trade-in gear helped to offset the price, and the server I purchased is the most musical device I’ve ever had in my system! I have ZERO buyer’s remorse! Kudos to Mike and his team for his store’s success and longevity! Far too many audio stores have disappeared over the years.
We bought a new house with a wired sound system but had NO idea how to use it. JJ came over to look at it and easily identified how to best get it up and working. Quote and communication was super clear and easy. JJ and Mitch came over and updated where the port for the wires were to better fit our layout. Their work was quick, tidy and top notch. It is so great to be able to use this system throughout our house! I would highly recommend to anyone needing their services.
Recently, I had a TV delivered and set up, bought some new audio equipment, and had some complicated repair work done on a turntable. In all, I interacted with five different people there and every one was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They went out of their way to understand exactly what were the best products to fit my situation and I never felt like they were trying to get me to buy equipment that was more expensive than exactly what I needed. I highly recommend Mike and his team at Holm Audio.
Had always wondered about this place since I drive by it all the time. I recently started getting into home audio and they happened to have the exact Marantz receiver I wanted as a used unit. Awesome experience in the store - never got the guy's name that helped me tall with long hair but he was great! Receiver works flawlessly and as expected even though it's used. They even offered to let me borrow it before buying. Was able to support a local brick and mortar AND got a great deal on the receiver I wanted. Win-win!! Definitely recommend this place!
