Are you REALLY hungry?! Stop in to Hop’s BBQ. I had the BBQ plate with slaw & hush puppies. You won’t leave hungry. Don’t let the parking situation stop you. There is plenty of parking all around in downtown. If you like a little dive eatery with good food … this is the place e for you. No frills. But you won’t miss them.Food: 5/5
Parking is somewhat limited but the food is good and the help is friendly and down to earth. The deep fried pickles were good and have nothing bad to say. Could complain about prices but everything is overpriced now so ...... Hops if you want to send out coupons I would visit more and maybe stay open past 7 .Food: 4/5
Great spot! I had the Super Cheeseburger, my sons had the Cheeseburger and the sliced BBQ Sandwich and my wife had the BBQ Nachos. All were amazing! Unfortunately we did not take any pictures of the burgers or sandwich, as we were ready to dig in but my wife took her time to get a picture of her BBQ Nachos just for this review. The staff is super nice and sweet! You get real southern hospitality here. We will be coming back for sure.
Very rude staff. The meatloaf was made with huge chunks of bread1/4 a piece of bread, not breadcrumbs like most meatloaf, making it taste like it wasn't done. When expressed I didn't like the meatloaf the kitchen staff came out in the dining room to eat and kept making comments very loud towards me saying over and over "the meatloaf is soooo good" and then leaning into other staff laughing and talking about me. Staff was also openingly talking about another coworker that was about to come into work saying they were going to make her mop and laughing. Very unprofessional. I will not be back. It needs to be remembered that customers pay the staffs paycheck so without us the doors wouldn't be open.
Walking around downtown Asheboro looking for a bite. Lot of the spots we googled were closed today when we stumbled upon Hops. The inside was open so we went for the board specials for Thursday. I had the Veg beef soup and sandwich grilled cheese, wife had the chicken quesadilla with nachos and queso sauce. Her chicken was tender and had a nice grill on it. She skipped the grilled peppers mistake but was cheesy and the tortilla was grilled and tender. Chips were hot and cheese dip was warm and tasty. My grilled cheese was average, but that soup was some of the BEST I’ve ever had! Rich, meaty, full of grilled hamburger, stew beef and vegetables. I didn’t mention to the wife until I had a chance to google what I’d noticed, but swear I’d tasted a hint of sweet pickle juice in the stew as a sweetener. Found several Eastern European recipes on line mentioning beef stew and pickle brine. I may be wrong but will try to recreate their stew at home soon. If the chief wants to shoot me that recipe I promise not to share. Great place that’s been there for years according to the historical marker. Didn’t even try their namesake so I’ll have to return soon.
This is about as southern as it gets. Grandma wishes she could cook like this. Check out the photos from this morning's breakfast...ham steak thin and crispy, red eye gravy, hash browns, eggs over easy followed by a big biscuit with molasses. Yummy.
Good Bar B Q great red slaw and hushpuppies. Things a NC bar b q fan looks for. Service is haphazard but willing to please. Restrooms are out side like the old days. It is an adventure just going there. Also the Chicken Salad is very good.
Good price, and food nice peopleFood: 4/5
