We enjoyed our 2 night stay however the resort looks tired… really could use an overhaul, not just lipstick and mascara to give the illusion of modernization. The room was large, clean, and comfortable. The customer service was great from guest services to restaurant staff. I couldn’t believe they charge $15 each for mini golf…. The course is ancient and in a state of disrepair, totally unacceptable to charge this for what it is. The price to mountain bike rentals and lift ticket etc was ridiculously overpriced, close to $140 per person…. Needless to say we did not participate. The pizza restaurant was great… excellent food and reasonably priced, friendly servers. Overall a nice stay but resort and amenities need an overhaul… the price should reflect what you get for it. 3/5 stars in my opinion.
Really loved our stay at Horseshoe. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Everything on the resort is so close together and easy to access. Our family enjoyed the lake/beach as well as the indoor pool. Nice trails and smaller activities for the kids basketball, playground, etc. Would come back for sure! Only note is that the rooms are a little dated more on the darker side but overall clean and comfy.
The service is excellent. Every person I encountered from cleaners, to front desk, to the restaurants, to the recreation area was kind, helpful, and seemed to genuinely like their job. I went in the summer. The resort itself is like a discount Blue Mountain. There are amenities but not many. Good enough for a 2 or 3 day getaway. As a whole the place needs a clean and there’s clearly nobody in charge of overall resort atmosphere/cleanliness, or if there is they must be wearing multiple hats instead of just this role. Changing this would be huge. For example: - there is a huge pile of split wood with a broken desk chair and an old rubber hose on top of it all piled on the restaurant patio. Why is this there?? It’s been there a while too based on the appearance of it. - there is a pile of old cushions haphazardly tossed inside the hallway of the guest services building. These are right where guests have to walk to use the washroom from the restaurant - the guest services hallway carpet is beyond disgusting and clearly has never been steamed since the winter - the pool has some random wood stage set up near the emergency exit with rotting wood around it - there are dogs running around the outdoor patio of the restaurant while I’m eating there - all the mini putt golf balls were white. This is just dumb how are kids supposed to know what ball is theirs ? The beach is a large pond and is good for relaxing or for kids to play in. There were life jackets but on one day they ran out with perhaps 25 kids borrowing them which causes an issue because nobody under 16 can go in the water without one The food at the restaurants is quite good, a little expensive, but the portions are huge. Service was great both nights, I ate at both restaurants I had an issue with my room and it was fixed immediately and with a friendly smile. The pool is a good temperature and so is the hot tub, good chairs to sit on and it’s clean there. Overall good place and with some work it will be even better. I don’t see how they think they can sell a unit at the resort for $660k but good on them if they can.
Was at Horseshoe for a conference and the service was top notch. We ate buffet style in the Alpine Cafeteria and the food was amazing. Beds in the hotel were very comfortable and the variety of activities kept everyone entertained. Tree top trekking was impressive how they got 50 kids and adults geared up, through the orientation and out on the course. Overall a great experience.
Had a great day riding the chairlift with the kids, hiking and playing mini golf. A great place for a day trip. Haven't stayed in the hotel, but it looked clean and welcoming. Friendly staff were very helpful. Great Kawartha Dairy ice cream. We will definitely be coming back.Service: 5/5
This was by far the worst place I have ever had to stay. As someone who travels a great deal for work, I am use to staying in hotels. Some are great some are not so good, but Horseshoe Resort stands alone as the worst place I have stayed. The meal I had was under cooked and the utensils were dirty. When I brought this to the managers attention, he was extremely rude and unhelpful. I would highly recommend staying away from this place if you value your health.
Missing white rectangular platter in room 205. Will call to find it. . Venue 's Phones not working so unable to confirm late checkout until we were all awake in morning for regular checkout. Cleanliness of bedding was marginal. Had to send for new bedding and it took an hour to rectify. Food & drinks: After party was to be at crazy horse bar but it closed early. Some communication glitch.
We booked this vacation in hopes of having a nice quiet overnight getaway. We booked a spa treatment and really enjoyed that. Dinner at the Crazy Horse was really good with large portions and the wait staff were great. The Inn itself however was terrible. They had one young man at the counter for check in time there was a lineup for 5 couples when we were there. The Sauna was also apparently out of service. The indoor pool area is dated but not the worst we have seen. The snack vending machine on the second floor was 98% empty, and looked dusty like it was forgotten about. There is 1 ice machine for the entire first two floors which are quite large. The hotel itself seemed to be quite booked for the night. Of course we were woken up twice after 11PM at night by families coming in, all talking to each other at full volume and letting their children run up and down the hallway just outside our door we were on the first floor. Our King fireplace room was very dated and noisy with little sound proofing between rooms someone showering next door was as loud as if we were doing so in ours. The bathroom was the nicest part of the room. There is one outlet in the bedroom area that wasn't taken up by other things so charging multiple devices was a challenge. There is a huge door gap at the bottom that lets in tons of light at night time and noise in from the hallway. The pillows were all the same and were terrible to sleep on. They were super firm, thick and caused a neck/pinched nerve spasm in the middle of the night for my fiancé who was at the brink of throwing up from the pain. I went to the front desk to purchase Advil or similar to help with the pain at 3AM since we forgot ours for the first time ever it happens! and the clerk informed me that they don't have anything like that for sale here. The nearest town you can drive to Craighurst shuts down apparently at 10PM and not even the Esso gas station is 24 hours. 40 minute round trip drive back to Barrie or go to the Barrie hospital were the only recommendations from the front clerk who honestly seemed incompetent. We ended up going back to our room, packing up and leaving at 3:30AM to drive home instead without our breakfast buffet or us spending any further money on resort. Upon checkout, the same clerk said nothing, offered nothing to us, not even any condolences we had to leave in the middle of the night, instead standing there with a "shocked" look that we were doing so. What other option was there for us? We recognize it's our fault we forgot the meds, but no other hotel we have stayed at had NOTHING to purchase for guests who forgot. It's brutally obvious now to us that winter skiing, etc. is the only thing that Horseshoe management care about at their resort because in the summer, it appears it is left to a bunch of inexperienced people to run the Inn until their bread and butter season starts. We will never recommend anyone stay there going forward. For the price you pay $350+ a night with "resort fees", etc. you can ABSOLUTELY find a much better value for your money elsewhere. Don't waste your time or hard earned money here!
We came here for a great summer weekend and left totally unhappy. The staff is not trained and no one seems to know anything. The rooms are dated and dark. The lake, which looks beautiful and big in the website picture is a glorified pond saturated in blue dye. Every activity is an up charge. The spa was horrible. $150 for a relaxation massage in a freezing cold 69-degree room that was the equivalent of a moisturizer application there was absolutely zero pressure in spite of asking for some pressure about 3x. The food at one restaurant was inedible - filled with rotten salad leaves and another burned / overcooked batter. When asked if we could do an extended check out to accommodate a business meeting the answer was, “yes, for an additional $40/hr. Overall, I would not recommend this “resort”. Service, food, accommodations and experience were sub-mediocre. It’s no wonder it was under booked.
We LOVED this resort!!! Went for a little 2 day getaway and had a blast!! I read reviews prior to our stay and I must say, the people who left one star reviews must be overly picky because we didn't understand their complaints. Staff were very pleasant. Our room was great! Very comfy bed with a huge soaker tub. We also had spa services and I must say, Melony Steele was the BEST massage therapist we have ever had!! I will definitely be trying more spa services next time I come. We ate at both restaurants and the food was absolutely delicious and priced competitively. Some reviews said the restaurants were expensive but their pricing was no different than eating at a Kelseys or Jack Astors. The food wasn't marked up like most resorts. The little lake was fabulous! Water nice and clean. Very calm. We went swimming and kayaking. At night, there was a Tom Petty tribute band and they were amazing and very talented!! It was such a nice evening and all the kids were dancing to the music under the lights. The resort was similar to Blue Mountain but on a smaller scale and way less expensive. It was not overly croweded either which is right up our alley. We will definitely make Horse Shoe an annual getaway! Highly recommend!
