Houston Foodbank
"More than 1 million people in the 18 southeast Texas counties served by Houston Food Bank are considered food insecure, meaning they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food to fuel a healthy life. In order to address this issue, the Houston Food Bank distributes food and other essentials to those in need through a network of 1,500 community partners. In addition, we also provide programs and services aimed at helping families achieve long-term stability including nutrition education, job training, health management, and help in securing state-funded assistance."

I wanted to give my time as well as a monthly donation to a cause that helps so many of our neighbors. I spoke with a customer service rep, and she put me on the list to volunteer as an individual since the website didn’t have any more availability. The volunteer experience is easy and fun! They try to liven it up with music, small successes packing a bunch of boxes full of macaroni or moving out a palette, as well as general positive attitudes. They have a great cafe for break time 15 minutes and lockers to stow away items while we pack. They even had fun characters to brighten the mood…Star Wars Storm Troopers, anyone? I appreciate the Houston Food Bank as a Houston gem, and volunteering is a great way to serve and love our neighbors as Christ calls us to serve our brothers and sisters.
Truck Driver Review: Giving 5* to Houston Food Bank cause they doing a great job feeding hungry, needy and poor, having a good impact on community. Receiving hours are from 8:00AM to 2:30PM. Tight space and No Parking inside if you are early, narrow streets around so park outside safely, better to come very close to your appointment.
Spent a few hours volunteering at the food bank and it was amazing. The staff and volunteers were all pleasant. And you can tell they were all passionate about the work that they do.
The Houston Foodbank is an organization that provides food/school supplies to those who are in need. I have volunteered here for a couple of months so far and it has been an awesome experience. The food bank makes it easy for you to sign up and get involved with the community. They have an online schedule which makes it easy to see what shifts are available and what time. I especially enjoy the variety of activities which you can help. You can box food, work in the kitchen, work in the storage, or if you want more interaction with the public, you can help pass out food by working in the community resource center or off site food distributions. I especially enjoy that this opportunity is great for people of all ages young students, families, adults' etc. The staff are all also super welcoming and helpful to new volunteers who may not fully understand the ropes.
A great venue to serve and have an impact on community. The staff were helpful. The facility is maintained and run well. The CFO even came out to meet us ! Thank you HFB It was a great experience to be able to contribute in a way. This organization largely depends on volunteers to accomplish its daily operation, so if you can, please register at their website as a volunteer to create an opportunity for yourself to impact the community in a positive way!
3 stars for the fast unload, minus 2 for the driver that blocked traffic just to be a karen.
Had an amazing volunteer experience here! Was put in the storefront they offer for Houstonians to do their grocery shopping and was so impressed! I was blown away by the compound and the massive size of it all! The staff and other volunteers are wonderful! Helped stock the shelves with fruits, veggies and other items. Just a wonderful organization period!
Today I visited the Houston Food Bank. The staff was very professional and attentive. I needed assistance with something minor but they went out of their way to help. The building was clean and in order. The trucks were parked neatly and well-kept. The volunteers we're friendly. A great place to volunteer.
They claim to help all these communities but they have pulled out of our community and only gave us some kinda of story about their guidelines have changed and our places don't meet those guidliness.I took my mom to a distributing place today and we sat there for 4 hours only to be told that the truck had been cancelled. Its like nothing exists past houston.Way to go!
Some of us from the local church volunteered at the Houston Food Bank. It was a very great experience that we were able to mingle with other people from the community and worked together for the one purpose, “Helping for others in need.” Very great opportunity so I would highly recommend for anyone who lives in Houston area or beyond to be a part of this amazing partnership of caring others. Come and join! Cheers
