Provide Fire & Rescue services to Mt Vernon, Westminster and Cane Creek communities and also surrounding areas from the city limits to McDowell County line
Established in 1971, the Hudlow Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. was created to provide fire protection to the Mt. Vernon and surrounding areas. Prior to the creation of the Fire Department, citizens had to rely on responses from the Rutherfordton, Spindale, or Forest City Fire Departments. Hudlow has grown and now provides Fire and Rescue services to our citizens. Hudlow was the first fire department to provide medical responders and the first fire department to become rescue certified in Rutherford County, both in the late 80's and early 90's. We now have about 30 firefighters, including 1 full time firefighter and several part-time employees (also a first for the volunteer fire departments of Rutherford County).
Our mission is to effectively protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors to our area.
