On 7/4/23 I arrived in Hutchinson after driving in the 100° heat all day in my truck with no AC it's been "fixed" several times. I went to Melody Acres RV park. Q009 E Blanchard, where I had a reservation, only to find no one in the office or around the campground. My phone uses AT&T towers, so I had no phone signal, no internet, nothing. I parked my trailer in the spot reserved but could not get the electricity to work. I was already spent due to the heat and struggling with the electric got me feeling dizzy, confused, and I started shaking. So I at 1905 hrs, I made the only call I could, 911. An HFD fire apparatus and ambulance responded and they got me cooled down to the point I could function. Meanwhile, the campground people saw all the excitement and showed up at last and got the electric working. I just wanted to thank everyone for standing around in the heat to fuss over this old lady, and for the patient and calm dispatcher, for showing up to work on a holiday! I am a retired LEO myself Indianapolis PD, 32yrs and often wondered if anybody even noticed. Well YES we do, and thank you! PS, I made it home to without any further issues, save the truck burning a tank full of diesel every 300 miles. God bless, guys and gals. Stay safe!
