The IFDA is the voice of funeral professionals who seek to share information and ideas, and to protect themselves and consumers through advocacy.
The Illinois Funeral Directors Association was founded in 1881 by funeral directors seeking a common voice, a way to share information, ideas and methods and to protect themselves and consumers through legislation. Our mission is to provide the resources to support our members in being professionally, ethically, and operationally superior, and to advocate for the funeral service profession.
Currently the IFDA has over 650 funeral home and 1300 funeral director/embalmer members statewide. We offer a wide variety of services to our members as well as the public. We invite you to review the information on our web site and contact us with any questions you may have.

Continuing Education
By Illinois law, funeral directors and embalmers are required to obtain 24 hours of continuing education every two year period. IFDA offers a wide variety of educational programs each renewal period so licensees can complete these continuing education requirements. Licensees can also obtain half of their continuing education requirements through home-study (written) courses.
Convention
The IFDA Convention is held annually each summer. Don’t miss your opportunity to obtain continuing education and network with other funeral directors. The Convention is a can't miss event every year!

The Forms Manual contains many forms to assist you in your daily work life. Many now available in a “fillable” format that allows you to fill out the forms right on your computer. Lobbying
Laws and regulations can have a major impact on how funeral directors conduct their daily business lives. With new laws being introduced on an almost daily basis, IFDA has made it our responsibility to track these new laws and evaluate their impact on funeral service. IFDA employs a full time lobbyist and an active legislative affairs committee to monitor legislation and ensure the profession is protected.
