Description

Sci-Port's IMAX Dome Theatre is one of a limited amount of theaters and the only IMAX Dome in the state of Louisiana. This extraordinary theater houses a 60-foot dome screen and state-of-the-art projection equipment.

I drove 200 miles to experience an Omnimax theater feature presentaion, and it was worth it to me. Other IMAX and Omnimax theatres in my area are not worth my time and consideration, except for the Omni Thearter in Fort Worth; unfortunately, the Omni Theater is temporarily closed due to a cold weather spell that got down to -2°F which is very rare for Fort Worth, Texas. It won't open up again until 2023 due to the damages done by the cold weather, and the major repairs and extensive renovations that are underway. Back to the review here at hand. It was fun observing the projectionist unroll the 70mm film leader off the platter system and onto the pulleys and rollers, and onto that HUGE OMNIMAX projector. Watching that projector get moved up by around 15 feet up to the ceiling projection port like an elevator is a sight to behold. Seeing the show start and watching the film run along the rollers at the fast speed of nearly 5½ feet per second, and the platters the large horizontal metal discs spinning quickly and smoothly to send film to, and take up film from the projection system is really fun. I watched it for a little while after watching the show I got a ticket to see. A person inside the projection room smiled and waved at me, and that made my day an even better one. I am a big fan of OMNIMAX dome theaters, but only the very few that meet my set of standards. The Sci-Port Discovery Center Omnimax Theater is one of only 4 theaters of its kind that I am impressed by.
