For over 50 years the proceeds from our local Bar Harbor, ME store front and factory are put toward preserving Maine woodlands by transforming them into wildlife and nature sanctuaries. We have already created over 10,000 acres of protected woods in northern Maine. Every product you purchase directly benefits the preservation of Maine Woodlands into wildlife sanctuaries, and further helps prevent development on those lands.
Our Wood is:
Responsibly sourced from select areas of the land purchased for the wildlife sanctuaries. All of our products are made from dead wood removed from the sanctuaries in order to fertilize the land and help promote growth. No new trees are downed to produce our products. The wood is transported to our factory in Dover Foxcroft, Maine, where it is aged, dried, and hand carved. Finally, every product we sell is preserved in bee hive oil before it leaves the factory. Bee hive oil is the best preserve for wood- it penetrates the wood evenly- leaving a smooth finish with a protectant behind. The bee’s oil also carries antibacterial properties since it was extracted directly from the bee hive’s comb.
