Independence State Mental Health Institute

I was a patient as a teenager. It was my home away from home and I gained so much knowledge on how to deal with my mental health. I do regret giving the staff here hell on my worst days. I was 16 when I entered here on PMIC and Ward S. I was 17 when I discharged as a Level 3. I remember staff members like Mr. James Bond and yes that was legitimately his name or Ms. Sue who did recreational activities with us. If I could tell any of you how thankful I am for what all of you as a whole did for in person one day I would! However I will just leave it here in case one day I get that chance. Sometimes I have dreams of being in this place and I feel the need make the journey to remind myself of how bad I'll never be again thanks to you. Your experience depended on you and if you really wanted to get home. if you had one of the most traumatic ones here I'm sorry. I didn't find it as horrible as they made it sound. In fact I probably wouldn't of learned many of my life skills if it wasn't for this place.

My grandfather worked there in the 70s as an orderly. He had a room on the premises. Seeing some of the pictures on Google are really cool.
