Committed to raising awareness and increasing access for women and their families in need of mental health services during and after pregnancy.
Our collaborative formed after the alleged murder of a 17 month old boy by his mother in Riverside County. News reports indicated that she may have been suffering from a mental health disorder. Many of us in the community became concerned that this may have been the result of a postpartum mood disorder. At that time there were no specialized support groups or treatment services for women suffering from perinatal and/or postpartum mood disorders in Riverside County and San Antonio Hospital had the only support group in San Bernardino County. We wanted to change this.
Our vision is to promote maternal and family mental health by raising awareness, decreasing stigma and providing effective resources for women experiencing perinatal mood disorders.
To increase prevention efforts, screening, and treatment of women with perinatal mood disorders to reduce child abuse and to promote long term quality of life for the mother and her family.
