95% of the world's ocean is unexplored. Scientists and engineers are working to change that. Follow their expeditions in real time at www.innerspacecenter.org.
The Inner Space Center (ISC) utilizes telepresence technologies to bring the excitement of ocean exploration to a global audience as it happens. Connected to Internet2, the ISC captures, displays, and disseminates high bandwidth streams of video, audio, and data from oceanographic research vessels in real time.
The ISC's Mission Control opened at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography in 2009. Based on the NASA model, in which teams of scientists and engineers on the ground communicate with astronauts in orbit, the ISC's remote platforms are the oceanographic ships and remotely operated vehicles systems that are exploring the depths of the world's oceans.
