We had a great experience at the Iowa Aviation Museum today. The staff was super friendly and shared a wealth a information as we walked through the various exhibits spanning from the first days of flight to the modern era. I wish I had the lady her name as it was a pleasure to meet her. If you enjoy history and aviation things this is the place you need to visit!
Very interesting museum with a strong Iowa heritage. Not big but plenty packed into the building. Kinda out of the way but if you have extra time it was worth the stop.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
A hidden gem of a place. Flew in to knock out some cross country hours, and ended up staying for over an hour. I could have stayed longer if I had the time! Front exhibit hall has lots of personal artifacts from families and individuals, from around the world, all tied to Iowa. In the attached hangar space, there are several examples of vintage aircraft, some that are truly one-of-a-kind, kept in meticulous shape. The staff was friendly, helpful, and available. I would definitely make this a stop off the interstate if I hadn't flown in!
The two ladies that assisted us in a tour were extremely knowledgeable and friendly! Kne was a former pilot and the other used to fix aircraft. It was such a fantastic experience and there is so much fascinating history there. Price for entry: $10.00
Great value for anyone interested in aviation. There is an impressive amount of information on Iowans in aviation from the early days at the turn of the 20th century to the present. There is a hangar with a number of vintage aircraft and information around 'famous plane crashes' that have taken place in the state. There is an Iowa Aviation Hall of Fame and library in the back of the hangar with racks of books, reference materials, and videos for perusal or research. This is a very quiet and quaint operation - don't expect anything too grand...but you will find a great deal of information with 'Iowa nice' treatment at a bargain price.
Stopped to stretch out legs a little bit. Saw and learned a lot of interesting things. And the employees were very welcoming and niceVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$16–20
This was a very positive experience for me. I had been wanting to visit this museum for a while and I finally had the chance to do it. This museum opened my eyes and reaffirmed my passion for aviation. There is so much history in Iowa alone when it comes to Iowa aviation. It has a Hall of Fame/Library in a room at the north end of the hangar with a plethora of information about Iowa's aviators and planes which played a major part in WWII and The Vietnam War, and the room also features preserved manuals regarding cockpit and emergency operations for different planes. There is a reference book, uniforms, a WASP tribute which I loved, and a number of very well-kept planes. This place has far exceeded my expectations, and one can expect to find more in the future as they are planning to expand. Please ask them about more information regarding expansion. Thank you and please be sure to pay them a visit soon.
Very interesting and informative. We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. The airplanes are beautiful and well displayed. The history of Iowa's residents is told with respect and honor.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
About 20km south of I-80. Don't let the dirt road deter you. All volunteers, no gov't funding. Say hello to the friendly neighborhood airport cat.
Really cool place, lots of unique information, several nice vintage planesVisited onWeekday
