The Iowa City Documentary Film Festival is an international festival run and organized by students at the University of Iowa. The focus of the festival is to incorporate different ideas of what it means to document. The festival, in its tenth year, is challenging conventional modes of thinking about art, documentation, and non-fiction. With an array of diverse art forms including music performance, visual history, science, and the written word, we aim to confront our audience with new ways to experience reality. The duality of past and present, subjective and objective, fact and fiction collide to construct our notions of what it means to make the present permanent—in simpler terms, to document.
