For starters, let's be honest in that I wish I didn't have to be there - I'm in the process of getting cleared for back surgery and am experiencing constant pain, can't stand for more than a few minutes, and even sitting can be tough all despite taking multiple prescription painkillers. To put it bluntly, my quality of life right now is near zero. With that said, this was one of my best medical care visits ever. Check-in was a minute or two and I had just lowered myself into a chair, picked up a newspaper and was called back for X-ray. The two techs that did the work were super friendly, very caring, and extremely patient with me despite the fact I move at a snail’s pace. Once that was done, I was seated to wait for a CT scan and had just picked up a magazine when I was called for the scan. The first two techs were great, but this person was even nicer. Super kind and constantly offered to help as I got positioned, but not in a pushy manner. What really blew me away was when I was done and back in a seated position, she not only offered but actually put my shoes back on for me. I can still do it, but it's a drawn-out process fraught with some gritted teeth - that was truly above and beyond. I wish I’d gathered the 3 techs names, but hopefully the clinic can check my records and give credit where it’s due. I really want to give the entire practice a solid thumbs up and thank them for being so timely, but more importantly for being so caring, friendly, and helpful. Now, if only they could help get my surgery scheduled sooner so I can start healing I’ll be forever in their debt……. I don't often give an unconditional thumbs up, but they earned it and then some. I wish I could give them more than just this review, so I'll just say thanks!
1. Annual wellness exam 7/24/23. Weight entered on my medical record was wrong, actual is 159.4. Med record stated 145. I pointed this out via patient portal email and it was finally corrected. Red flag # 1 2. I was sent to TIC lab for routine blood draws 7/24/23 after my physical. New lab policy is to go ahead and draw blood without any physician orders. Red flag # 2. 3. By Thursday, 7/27 no lab results posted on patient portal. Red flag # 3. 4. After pointing out in email to dr's office on 7/27 the lack of lab results, the tests were finally processed 7/28 with an email response that the orders never made it to the lab . Red flag # 4. The issue I have with the lab policy of drawing blood without orders led to this mess. No one should be drawing blood on a patient with no orders on which tests to run!!! Who notices that blood is sitting there for 4 days with no orders and takes the initiative to notify the doctor's office? Many patients don't access the patient portal and this mistake would have gone unnoticed until it is too late to salvage the blood for those patients, jeopardizing the patient's health and causing an additional blood draw. I've been a patient of TIC since the mid 1990's and have never had an issue with any of my care. Until now. I expect more than sloppy health care from TIC. If this is a trend, I shall go elsewhere. YOU NEED A PATIENT ADVOCATE on your staff!!!!
They have been a dumpster fire since Covid. Cannot see a provider. No one returns calls. Serious illnesses are ignored during the time frame when treating them would be vital. Misdiagnosis. Screw up lab tests. If my insurance worked with anyone else I would leave immediately. Hate being stuck with this group now.
My mom was in the USA visiting us relatives and had to do a COVID test 24hrs prior to flying back home to Brazil. Since she did not have health insurance, the Iowa Clinic said it was a flat $150 fee for the whole thing. We paid that on our credit card on the spot. A few days later, we got another bill for $142.35. I spoke to "Tina" at their billing department and she said she does not know why. This is disrespectful and we were lied to. We intend to sue if they charge us for more than they said would be the flat, total cost of the COVID test $150.
The Iowa Clinic West Des Moines is an excellent medical facility for any medical care needs whether it be primary care, specialty care, or urgent care. The professionalism of the staff and the doctors is outstanding. All of my doctor's here have taken extra time and care in listening to me which is so important and with their exceptional knowledge and experience they take personal care of all my medical needs. The Iowa Clinics are truly the Best by far, I have been a patient here since 2014 and I will continue to be a patient with them until I am gone. Tysm Iowa Clinics
My star rating is based on the WDM Iowa Clinic Internal Medicine area and the supervisor over that area. The reception desk staff have been helpful, but getting call backs from the nurse or even the supervisor is pretty much impossible. I've been trying since June to figure out what to do about my health and nothing has been done because they can't return phone calls. So if you want folks that don't care, by all means, go here. When I finally did get a call back from the supervisor, he basically told me to not be a patient there anymore. He also couldn't tell me when the new policies have been implemented to get patients called back in a timely manner. So, since it has been about 2-weeks since I had first reached out and had reached out two other times in that 2-week window... And I had to threaten calling my lawyer, he finally calls me. So basically nothing has been done to implement timely patient call back. Update: So, there is a comment by Iowa Clinic for me to call and place a call to discuss my concerns/complaint. However, I called at 8A this morning and I'm still on hold to talk to a human t is now 8:20A.
I see that others have complained about the waiting time related to calling into your office. I found it funny that you requested they call in so that they can discuss the issue with you. Another 30 minutes on hold?
Visiting your website I was hoping to find the location of the Dr office/service I had an appointment with. The building is huge and yet I reached a dead end on my effort to find the exact location within the building. I was hoping to park close to the office location. Very frustrating to say the least.
Iowa Clinic healthcare will tell you you that you have serious issues and then tell you it will be a month or so before they can see you and the fact is they are backed up because they are only open 9 to 5 and they have no after hours people.
Appointment went OK. Home sleep study went OK. Then I never received a call to discuss my results of the sleep study. Very disappointing to say the least.
