We had a great time at the Okra Strut Festival! My only issue was some of the vendors not posting their prices for food and drinks. My husband and I spent $44 on lunch. All it was two philly cheesesteaks and two lemonades. This particular vendor we bought lunch from did not have their prices posted. It would have been helpful.
Great food, music and atmosphere- the park is wonderful and kids had a blast.
My family has enjoyed going to the Okra Strut for many years! Tons of fun, yummy food, and great music! The parade is great as well! Can’t wait to go this year!
I was disappointed that they did not have a Ferris wheel at the event like they had advertised in photos on the Okra Strut website. Everything seemed fair-themed, including the food, and the selection of okra was actually minimal. The music was above average and there was plenty of seating. We discovered an area with it's own dedicated seating section with tables, slightly away from the events; I felt it was a good addition there just wasn't a lot else going on around there. The rides that were offered were very simple ground-level tracked train-on-wheels type rides that only a kid up to age 12 might enjoy. They had a Gravitron there, which was the only ride an adult might enjoy- but you risk inducing motion sickness at an event that is designed to sell food/drink IMO. They really needed more rides especially for adult couples. I didn't mind spending money at events that support a town- it's just that what was offered was either fair-food, child-themed rides, or listen to a band play music. Busing was adequate, but they need to do a better job of informing the public exactly where to park, in what parking lot, etc. Draw a map and don't leave people guessing where the bus is going to show up.
Personally I love the event, it’s always been fun for me and has made a family tradition from going to the park and actually being able to pull the ocra man every year. Truly great experience and even greater memories!
We're attended the parade this year... Actually matched in it and got thoroughly drenched in the rain while meeting quite a few national politicians running for reelection soon. The variety of vendors at the festival was very good and lots of fun things to do for the kids that didn't cost a dime!
Hard to find entertainment like this. A true South Carolina tradition, fun for the whole family! Great fried okra, music, and small crafts. Get your picture taken with the 20 foot Okra Man or make sure to see Abraham the camel drinking diet mountain dew while walking in the parade.
Food was good, beer was cold. My wife enjoyed herself. When wife is happy everyone is happy.
I haven't been to the okra strut but plan to. The park that will host it is the best I have seen.
The Irmo Okra Strut is great. Even if for some reason you don't like okra, they have a solid parade, rides, non-okra food items, beer and live music. It's held in a huge outdoor space so there is room to roam and it never seems too crowded like, say, the State Fair. I can never find an easy way in or out so that's one star I cannot give. Also, they stopped selling ride tickets before the official end of the festival this year which left me with a very dissatisfied two year old.
