Iron Horse Grill & Saloon
"Built as the Armour Smokehouse in 1906 this legendary Jackson landmark is a true icon of Mississippi's rich heritage. The old Iron Horse Grill burned down mysteriously twice. It was left abandoned after a fire in 1999. Fifteen years later we've brought it back up from the ashes like never before! Our open kitchen and live music is the Mississippi way of living."

If I could give the people five stars I would give them ten stars. The service is great. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Stanley was our host and he was excellent. Very fast service and wonderful in every way. The food however wasn’t that good. 2 and a half stars at best. The fried broccoli was basically broccoli with cheese. Nothing to really rant about. The food was just ok. It was completely busy. The atmosphere was great with love blues music, but if you’re coming for the food, you will be pleasantly disappointed. The restaurant needs a deep cleaning and the plates had food on them from the previous guests. When we sent them back we received plates in the same condition.
This place was really great! Our waitress was awesome and gave us some history about the place. The shrimp and grits was the best. There was even a small museum at the top of the restaurant. There were artists I didn’t even know that were from Mississippi. Also they have live music. This is a great place to go.
A really unique restaurant in downtown Jackson! This place had a great menu and awesome atmosphere. Lots of seating available upstairs and downstairs and a decent area outside. There are two bars, one upstairs and one downstairs. The music was great but it was very loud but still enjoyable. The joint was very busy when I went but we still got our food and drinks in a timely manner! I highly suggest giving this place a visit at least once!
I would eat here again. The waitress that I had along with my family yesterday were genuinely kind and helpful. She maintained eye contact and was respectful. The food was served nicely. Portions for the cost met expectations. The drinks were served with the right amount of ice. Overall, I would definitely go back here to eat again.Dine in: Yes
I definitely enjoyed the food. I ordered the chimichanga and I cannot complain. Try the fried broccoli with cheese and you won’t regret it. The Navajo chicken was tasty as well. The chips and salsa are crunchy and delicious. The mason jar filled with sweet tea hit the spot. The mashed potatoes were very good and chicken fried chicken is good. Service was good waitress nice and accommodating. All in all I say definitely swing by here if you’re in town. There is also a free musicians museum on the second floor. We didn’t catch the live music but I’m sure its enjoyable from that stage.
I had the “Stuffed Delta Catfish” which on paper sounds like delicious dish. But the execution of the actual meal was lackluster at best. The fried okra was really good, nice crispy fry and decent sized okra pieces. Mac and cheese was under-seasoned, it was cold on arrival so the cheese was congealed. The dinner roll itself was decent, especially with the honey butter that came on the side. Catfish itself was okay the batter could have been crispier, especially with a sauce on top that made the catfish batter soggy. The crabmeat filling that was inside was okay, could have been more seasoned. It also was all stacked in the middle, instead of evenly spread out through the catfish. The lemon dill sauce didn’t taste like anything, I had to squeeze fresh lemon on top to get any lemon flavor in my dish. The service was wonderful our server Marsha treated us so well and kindly. Overall the experience was okay, but for the price you pay it’s simply not worth it.
Visit during Jackson State orientation and this is the only nice restaurant there. And the food was great. The egg roll and ribs, salmon and the big juicy pork chop was sooooo good. Was happy I stopped before leaving.
This was a vibe. From the moment we walked in we were greater. Seated immediately. Our server, summer, also was the bar tender. The fried broccoli, OMG!!! DELICIOUS!!! THE PASTA! DELICIOUS! WINGS, DELICIOUS! DRINKS, AMAZING! SWEET TEA, JUST RIGHT!!! THIS IS OUR NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT WHEN WE VISIT MISSISSIPPI. It's rare to find a restaurant with nothing wrong.
The staff are BEYOND friendly and accommodating. Right as we were finishing up, our waitress noticed that I hadn't finished my cocktail, topped it off AND put it in a reusable, aluminum cup!! YAAAAAASSS!!! Bottomless basket of tortilla chips and salsa - both, freshly made, on premises. You CANNOT eat just one! The bartender FEARLESSLY pours. The menu selections are bursting with flavor. The Citrus Chicken will MELT IN YOUR MOUTH. And when you're done, go upstairs to get a lesson on some of the origins of the rich, diverse, musical history of Mississippi.
Food was not my cup of tea but it was still good. The atmosphere is great. We had a great server. Definitely a good spot to chill for a live band and drinks.
