Nestled under big shade trees in historic Downtown Hanford is the Irwin Street Inn, a charming Victorian style Hotel and Restaurant made up of a main house, which houses the restaurant, and three separate houses for our guests.
The main house was originally built in the 1890's by the Wright family. Max Walden, a dedicated preservationist, purchased the house for his own family and began renovation and restoration in 1980. As adjacent property became available, Waldenn purchased it with an eye to developing it for the use and enjoyment of the people of Hanford and its visitors.
Eventually, there were four buildings in the compound. Most interesting is that, except for the main building, the other three buildings were not two-story buildings. During the renovations, they were raised up and the "first floors" became the "second floors".
The rooms were all outfitted to recollect the Victorian era. The toilets had pull chains, the tubs sat up off the floor on claws, and sinks were on pedestals. At first, there weren't even showers!!!
Today, the rooms have televisions, and showers, even wireless internet is provided. Yet guests still relax in the charming Victorian ambience. Every room is decorated differently and each features a beautiful stained-glass window.
The Irwin Street Inn has 30 rooms including three suites. It is often the hotel of choice for celebrities performing at the Fox Theatre. A larger wood-paneled room is available for banquets and meetings and the courtyard is also available for private gatherings, weddings and just about any event you can think of.
