The wife and I visited Isaac's this past Sunday and we were surprised that, there was no wait staff working. You can order food at front counter and seat your self. They will bring food to you but you have to get your own refills on drinks and empty trash. Little weird but the quality of food haven't changed. Still delicious pepper jack cheese soup, generous portion of meat on the sandwiches and the deep fried cheese curd is awesome. I miss my friendly waitresses but food alone is worth the 1.5 hr drive from home. Only rated 3 stars due to confusing instructions on how to order food and self serv to a degree. Only thing I can say simply is, it's not full service restaurant right now.
Absolutely amazing toasted sandwiches. I went for the "Rainbow Parrot" plentt of tasty filling and crunch. Definetly recomend stopping here for lunch before going to the rail road.
For years Isaac's has been one of our favorite places to go. Delicious food, good portions. Clean establishment, friendly staff. We were quite disappointed this time. No more table service except to bring your bagged meal . Waited too long for a restaurant that only had patrons at two other tables. Sandwich portion very disappointing when ordering soup and half sandwich. Advertised as 1/2 pretzel roll. It wasn't even the size of a slider. Sandwich very dry. Will only return as a last resort.
It was exactly what we were looking for! Simple, delicious food at a great price. We went looking for soup but everything we found was perfect. The kids meals were fun and delicious. Two of my daughters were able to make their own PBJ on rainbow bread. The other had a chicken sandwich made of dino nuggets and a pretzel bread roll. All the kids meals came with chips and either baby carrots and ranch or applesauce, as well as a drink and a dessert. Both soups being offered were delicious. I only ordered half a sandwich to supplement my soup but was pleasantly surprised to find that it, too, was delicious. And, to top it all off, we ate in the refurbished dining car of a train.
GREAT SERVICE! GREAT FOOD!! Nice way to spend a sunny afternoon with my mom. Waitress was super polite, bubbly.., class act. I'll go there again for sure. Felt like we traveled back in time; a trip on an old locomotive in PA train country. *BONUS
1st time visit! Loved It! Sandwiches were tasty and plentiful. Decorated with photos of trains and nearby The Strasburg Railroad Museum. Service was friendly! Want to go back again!!!!!
Great food. A very fun menu - items are all named after birds. Black heron sandwich made with roast beef, not black heron meat was yummy. The side of pickles is excellent, as is the cole slaw. The cole slaw is cut very fine and is much better than the coarser varieties.
Sandwiches were close to $11 each and then fountain drinks were extra. My husband ordered a sandwich from the menu and his was pretty good yet small. Me and my 2 sons got the "make your own" sandwich and one son was missing cheese, another was missing veggies, I was missing the buffalo on my Buffalo Chicken. We got the cheesy pretzel bread app for 5.49 and it was the size of a matchbox. The bill was over $60 for 4 sandwiches, 3 fountain drinks and a minuscule app. This is a tourist trap for sure. Wish we had not left a tip. They didn't even bother to cut my sandwich in half. Terrible.
Isaac's is a Lancaster classic sandwich shop. I grew up eating these sandwiches. I love the Rainbow Parrot and Scarlet Ibis, still the same from my youth. They used to put a free assortment of pickled peppers, but they still give you a delicious pickle with your order. Highly recommended!
I enjoyed my experience. I was overwhelmed with the menu because I wanted all the sandwiches. The twisted chicken wasn’t too great- the pretzel bun wasn’t done and the whole was short on flavor. But the actual sandwiches like the Rueben my friends picked were good. You get a tasty pickle on a bag. It’s not 5star but I’d stop by again.
