This is a very neat and educational museum on the history of Smithfield and the area. Lots of interesting artifacts on display and, of course, you can see the world's oldest peanut 1890 and edible ham! It was surprisingly inexpensive to visit for everything that's included. It's also located near shopping and restaurants, and there's plenty of free parking.
Very neat museum. It gas the oldest ham and peanut. The gentleman that was working the register was very informative and very nice. Well worth the price of $2.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
The place was very clean and the gift shop was small but cute. The coolest thing was the general store. The Lady at the front desk, was a sweetheart. And my good friend from south india just love the place. Thank you so much for working hard to keep places like this open.
Fabulous museum!! It covered a much broader spectrum of subjects than we expected. Everything about this museum was very well done; the artifacts, the presentation, the signs and interpretations and especially the tour by Mike! Mike has a wealth of knowledge and gave a very detailed and enthusiastic presentation!
Very historical town that was involved with slavery and Smithfield hams. There are many unique shops along the way & the people are very friendly & welcoming!
This was a great little museum. I learned so much about the area that I never knew and I have grown up in Southampton County. It was but $2.00 a person. Definitely worth the time.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
Nice little museum which is huge on the inside. Friendly staff, lots of artifacts, about local history from the Native Americans to the Colonial period, and beyond. A must to visit at least once. Update : Just revisited the museum a few days ago. Still the same AND more. They added an exhibit on the Cold War and more displays about the Civil War. The staff is as friendly as ever and it isn't busy. Also, just costs two dollars a head. That's cheap. Even for a local museum. And you get to see the oldest peanut. What more can you want?
Fantastic, educational museum about the history of Isle of Wight county. Watch the 17 minute video and get a lot of information about 400 years of history. Totally worth the $2 admissionVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
A modest sized museum but with some great exhibits like a recreated country store with talking shopkeepers. On display is the oldest preserved ham in the world and the "Believe It or Not" story written about it. Walk along Main St to see many life-sized bronze sculptures on benches by George Lundeen.
This is a great nice museum to visit! If you are in Smithfield, this is a must see place. Very friendly staff. The displays were very well presented and informative. We really enjoyed our visit to this museum.
