Ivy League is a Toddler through 8th grade private independent school known for our family atmosphere and child-friendly environment.
Established in 1961, Ivy League School has stayed true to its mission: To support and encourage each child’s lively intellect, promote independence and self confidence, foster social competency, build character, and inspire a love of learning. Our goal is to enable each student to live a healthy and meaningful life, contribute to their community and make a difference in tomorrow’s world. By merging the best of research with the wisdom gained over five decades of experience, Ivy League School continues to be at the forefront of independent schools on Long Island.
Pre-School (Toddler to Pre-Kindergarten)
The primary focus of Ivy League’s Pre-School is to nurture young children’s natural curiosity and to cultivate an intrinsic joy of learning. Hands-on teaching activities, specialized teaching methods which integrate reading, writing and mathematical readiness skills, and theme based units are used to develop and stimulate each child’s emerging skills. Teachers make great use of our beautiful, 16-acre campus by giving children many opportunities to appreciate the outdoors, develop gross motor skills, and engage in positive peer interaction. As important developmental milestones are reached, teachers work with children at specially designed learning centers to further maximize academic potential and build confidence and self esteem.
Elementary School (Kindergarten to Grade 5)
Ivy League’s 21st Century Elementary School curriculum has gone beyond mastery of traditional academics by preparing students to live in a growing and interdependent global society. Spanish, French, Mandarin and information technologies are part of the core curriculum. Education is future-oriented, and exceeds all local and national learning standards. Teachers stress higher order thinking skills and “habits of mind” that are the foundation of abstract thinking, imagination and judgment. A dedicated and highly experienced faculty is supported by specialists in art, music, physical education and teachers of foreign languages. In an environment small enough for teachers to accommodate different learning styles, capabilities and personalities — yet large enough to provide multiple pathways to achievement — each child is appreciated and valued as a member of the group.
Middle School (Grade 6 to Grade 8)
Middle School at Ivy League will provide your pre-adolescent child with a wholesome social setting free of distraction and a quality education with the best in personal attention. The goal of Ivy League’s Middle School is to build and refine students’ conceptual understanding of core subject matter, reinforce good study habits and organizational skills, encourage critical thinking and problem solving, and provide a platform for developing their special gifts and talents. Middle school is a time of tremendous growth, where minds and bodies are changing rapidly. It is also a time when 10-to-14 year old students make critical choices, form attitudes, values and personality traits which will cast the mold for their behavior as adults. As students prepare for the rigors of high school, Ivy League educators who value young adolescents and are prepared to teach them, will encourage academic excellence, inspire creativity and imagination, and foster a sense of responsibility toward self and others.
