Jóia Food Farm is a small livestock and organic crop farm located in Northeast Iowa. Our goal is to be completely self-sustainable, where our livestock feeds our soils and the soils feed the plants we grow. We believe in the principles of agroecology, which include many elements such as conserving water, soil, and minimizing toxins. But the main element we focus on is having biodiversity, with the sharing of animals and crops working together to create healthy soils, healthy animals, healthy plants, a healthy environment, and most importantly healthy food.
We began Jóia Food Farm out of concerns of our food supply. We wanted to eat something other than factory-farmed food. We wanted to eat clean, pure and wholesome food that didn’t contain or use hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, and herbicides. We also were concerned about the humane treatment and handling of animals and felt we could provide our animals with livelihoods that include all of the great outdoors and allow natural habits like rooting, grazing, and scratching for bugs.
At Jóia, we raise pastured and outdoor raised pigs, 100% grass-fed lamb, layer chickens for eggs, meat chickens, turkeys, ducks, and goats. All of our animals are humanely raised, fed organic and/or non-gmo feedstuffs, pasture-raised, and get to do what they do naturally. We believe in happy animals for healthy food.
