Pleasant surprise. A wonderful park to walk your leashed dog amongst the tree and brushed line trails above Monterey. Good parking, clean restroom and nice views between the trees of the Monterey Bay and Peninsula. Some rolling hills in dirt trails, with poison oak. Do not recommend wheel chairs or people with limited mobility. Restrooms: Very clean Dog-friendliness: Dogs welcome but must be leashed.
I love hiking here any season. Just a beautiful place to be. I'm glad it's open again. You can tell it's been awhile since the trails were used with all the new growth. This just adds to the tranquility of the area.
Certainly one of the nice areas to check out in Monterey. The views are spectacular, and hiking is really fun provided you don't have kids with you who need a stroller. We had to take a stroller since our little one was not so enthusiastic about hiking, and it was a lot of work maneuvering the stroller through hiking trails. Other than that, it was a great hike. There is also a view of Carmel beach where you can see the early sunset. Bathrooms are clean and there are a couple of seats for enjoying a snack near the parking lot. It is recommended that you download an electronic map of the trails in advance from the website to make it easier to navigate through them without wasting so much time.
Over all the experience was great for many reasons - weather was awesome, trails were clean etc. However it was easy to get lost on a wrong trail as it has no marks or sign boards. Basically if there aren’t signboards, do not embark on that trail specially narrow ones. If you want to try the skyline trail, start from the parking itself rather than doing the whole iris trail and trying to merge to Skyline we made this mistake, never made it to skyline end And yeah; word of caution for poisonous Oaks, cover yourself with long sleeves and full length track panos or jogger’s. Trail at Jacks peak park are a must; prepare well, carry extra drinking water and some snacks. And yea most of the trails starts downwards and there is more of climb while returning. Happy tracking, hiking
Beautiful park. Easy parking with a nice clean restrooms. Fun easy hike with a few inclines. Gorgeous view on a sunny day. Well maintained trail. Very quiet peaceful trail with beautiful trees .Shaded trail with lots of benches
Very nice park, some trails have a few open spots to view the bay and Monterey. Moderate inclines, one coffeeberry trail was a bit steeper. Parking lot was full today. Nice surprise to come across the Mayor of Sand City and have a chat about an upcoming event and glass jewelry. Added a few videos too.
One thing, your car might take a slight beating on The drive.... That being said, so worth it, such Beautiful views!! Might I add that it's nice to see a park that has been kept clean, the trails are well kept, yet nothing takes away from nature. The facilities look like they could use a scrubbing, but still kept stocked. And all maps/notices are updated and clearly visible. No signs of vandalism, no trash floating around. Awesome!!
This is a great park! The trails are easily navigated and not too long. The views are breathtaking and I highly recommend bringing your camera and telephoto lens. The admission fee is $5 and it is worth every penny.
I was here on April/4/2021. I was hiking up to Jack Peak, it is a loop about 6 miles, 1,000 ft of elevation gain. it is super nice trail, not many people, very peaceful, and a lot of shady. It has a benches, picnic tables, bathroom. Nice view of Carmel Valley, Watsonville,Santa Lucia mountain, and Monterey bay. Everything in this trail are so green, I would love to invite everyone come out, enjoy Jack Peak and support Monterey county park.
Beginner to Intermediate level hike ... or trail run. Beautiful scenery, but watch out for poison oak if you are allergic. Come up here and get a look at most of the coastline.
