Jackson Trading Co

About

Family owned and run western retail, tack & farrier supplies, and leather repair shop.

Description

1938, a time of when a seeing a horse drawn carriage wasn’t an odd thing in downtown Asheville NC. This is the year that Stonewall Jackson opens the doors to Jackson Trading Co. Located street side in a quite brick building near the train tracks, selling dry goods and clothing. With the two sons entering the business, expansion was in the future. Thomas Jackson and Julian Jackson broke down walls and took the Jackson Trading Co to larger heights with feed & seed, an excellent leather repair shop, harness making shop and western clothing that was unheard of in this region of America.

After some years had passed the space became scarce in the brick building that housed Jackson Trading Co. so on a voyage for room and comfort. Thomas happens to come upon a piece of land on the west side of Asheville and with cowboy intuition and southern grit we broke ground in spring of’73. Growing from a small harness shop into a western clothing premier store took a lot of combined effort of the third generation of Jacksons to step in their fathers shoes.

John Jackson (son of Julian) took the harness/leather shop to new national heights with custom hand-made leather goods that some had thought to be non-existent. Charles Jackson (son of Thomas) became a staple of the saddle/tack business and grew into a sought after store in the south east. By summer of ’93 space inside of Jackson Trading Co was getting tight and desperate. The following summer we knocked some walls down and doubled our size to the store that customers enjoy today.

With the future in-sight Jackson Trading Co made a change to Jackson’s Western Store to reflect the upcoming JacksonsWesternStore.com venture.

Jackson’s is one of the oldest family owned businesses left in Asheville NC. With a past as colorful as its future, Jackson’s has become a common name amongst horse enthusiasts around the world.

From all of us at Jackson’s Western Store, we thank you and hope to see you come back soon.

My son bought these boots and when he got home we realized they were 2 different boots. Took them to return the very next day with receipt and he was told they wouldn't refund or trade them because they had been worn. They had not.. Only in the store to try on. I can not even begin to tell you how wrong this is and how sad that this local business has these kind or morals and ethics. He paid $160 for a pair of mismatched boots with 2 different size heels and arches that he cannot wear!!
Excellent store customer service was excellent. Prices are excellent. Got boot tips n heel tips. Leather inserts in boot to fit just right.
This is a pricey place. Just don't want you to be walking in and get sticker shocked. I absolutely love looking around in this store! Love the smell of leather and the all the western attire. And those boots!!! Oh my goodness! The hats are so a plenty! The jeans assortment is wonderful.
Nice store, very clean. Lots of items to pick from...from boots to jewelry/gift ideas to clothing. I was in the store for at least 15 minutes and had to find someone to help me though. Nobody ever greeted me and saw 2 employees engaged in a conversation, although I admit I don't know what it was related to. When I asked for what I needed they didn't have it.
Edit: The response tells you all you need to know about this business and the way it’s run. You don’t think you’re aggressive, yet respond to valid criticism with more aggression on all the 1 star reviews. You might be the problem. Sounds like you need to find a different line of work. Sad, really. Best of luck. My husband inquired about if they do military discount and instead of giving a simple, “no, sorry.”, one of the men working behind the counter said “Everyday low prices.” Okay? It’s okay if you don’t do a mil discount. Not everyone does. The weirdly aggressive and patronizing attitude about his simple question was unnecessary and we won’t be back. The 10 year old child working the register was nicer than who I assume is the owner. TLDR: they don’t offer military discount and act like you’re robbing them by asking.
Great old fashioned western store and was around when I was a kid 59 years ago and still going strong. If you love the smell of leather you will love this place. One of my favorite stores
The personnel at this store were friendly, and inviting. They have a large selection of cowboy boots and tack. I came in to the store and asked if they could fix the brim of my felt cowboy hat. They did so and didn't even want to charge me. I paid them anyway because they provided good service. Highly recommended.
Everything you need in western gear that you could think of. Everyone was so helpful. It was fun looking through all the aisles at everything from saddles to hats, boots and clothes. Not to mention the really cool leather shop in the downstairs area! My favorite!
Prices were a bit inflated and I was made to feel VERY unwelcome by the lady at the front counter. Not outright rude but very short as if she wanted me out of there. Also absolutely no help with my purchase. Felt like "hurry up and buy and get out. The product itself is good but that is because it's a stetson. Not something they make. From now on I think I'll save myself from such attitude and simply buy somewhere else online like Amazon.
Awful customer service. Asked to see a felt, told us it was $500 and did not take it down….? Decided to take my business elsewhere.
