I've only been here twice over the course of a year, while visiting family in New Paltz. This is the only place I've had Jamaican food, so I have to compare it to, but I thoroughly enjoyed the food here. We got the vegetable curry with rice and plantains. It's like a home cooked meal. The restaurant was mostly clean and empty both times, but there doesn't seem to be much seating for larger parties. Customer service was just ok. I didn't know what Ackee was, so I asked the server. He just kept saying "it's a Jamaican fruit." I asked him how it was prepared what spices? was it sweet? is it hot/cold?, etc. but I don't think he understood me, because he just looked confused and said "it's hard to explain.". I just picked another menu item, but I was frustrated because I like to try new things at new restaurants. Prices are cheap and the food is tasty. Customer service is lacking.
Excellent service, friendly staff ....fair prices also full bar..
I just purchased an order from this restaurant for my mother. The meal consisted of a main course meat and two side orders. My order was a take out order and when I arrived home I realized that the waiter put the meat in one of the tiny side order holders in the take out tray. In both the orders RICE was in the biggest part of the container. I couldn't believe that I paid over $30 for beans and rice. I called the establishment and said, "I order meat with two side dishes and you put the meat in the tiny side order part of the container." The response, "Well you ordered a meal which is one meat and two side orders." My response, "But the meat isn't one of the side orders! You basically gave me container full of rice and beans." I'm so angry. I recommend if you eat at this place that you check your food before you leave. If you want an order of beans and rice you can pay $3.99 and not $32.00. So so angry!
My family loved this place.my son who only eats plain hamburgers or chicken fingers and is horrified by anything sketchy ordered the coconut chicken and loved it. Everyone ordered something different and we were all eating off each other’s plates. The server was not chatty. No “Hi I’m Chad and I’ll be your server tonight. Our specials are blah blah blah.” No “Are you still working on that?” I actually prefer that.
Good quality for the price of the various menu items. Flavorful food served in a timely manner. Several vegetarian & vegan options. A good beer selection & cocktails available. The server was very friendly & was attentive when taking orders but did not circulate to check on our table.
This was NOT a good experience! The cabbage was under cooked, the lamb curry was tough and vinegary indicating old meat and poor preparation. And how can you mess up coleslaw? The seasoning did NOT have the Jamaican sizzle and taste that I was expecting!!! Overall, the food quality was very poor. I would strongly suggest if you want GREAT Jamaican food or get an idea of what Jamaican food should taste like, come to Dallas, TX and eat at Elaine's Kitchen.
Don't waste your time or money going here. Top Taste in Kingston has much better food, much better service and you know the owner cooks the food from his heart. I have been disappointed almost every single time I've been to Jamaica Choice mostly with the food. The meat is usually dry. The patties have little to no seasoning and are not much better than what you would buy at a cheap food mart. Either save by going somewhere like McDonald's or spend the money on a place where you know the food is of better quality.
BEWARE!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! This place deserves ZERO stars! I will NEVER support this establishment again! They need customer service training. I went there asking for a wrap and the cook YELLED at me NO WRAPS you order a meal!! I asked again. He yelled again! Is that the proper way to treat customers who want to spend their hard earned money in your restaurant? I will be speaking to the manager and I will NEVER come here again!
I'm originally from Brooklyn which is a Mecca of Carribean food. The food here is really good. The patties have great flavor and I'm rating thier oxtail is top five that I've had...And I've had a lot. I really enjoy the vibe. The place is always clean, service is fast and the owners have always been pleasant the few times I've interacted with them!
Great food, great people and an inviting atmosphere! I have ordered nearly everything on the menu and never been disappointed. The jerk pork, brown stew and oxtail are simply the best!
